Using Various Functions for

Shooting Movies

This chapter serves as a more advanced version of the "Shooting

Movies" and "Viewing Movies" sections in Chapter 1, and explains how

to use various functions for shooting and viewing movies.

This chapter assumes that you have set the mode dial to ",_,. However,

even if the mode dial is set to a position other than _,_,, movies can be shot

by pressing the movie button.

The latter half of the chapter explaining movie playback and editing

assumes that you have pressed the [] button to enter Playback mode.

You can choose among 2 different Movie modes.

Just as with still images, you can let the camera select the best settings for

the scene or add various effects while shooting movies.

Choose aShooting mode.

Follow Steps 1 - 2 on p. 58, or Steps 1 - 2

on p. 61 to choose a Shooting mode.

Depending on the Shooting mode or movie

image quality (p. 106) you choose, black

bars may appear on the top and bottom of

the screen. These areas will not be

recorded.

To stop shooting the movie, press the

movie button again.

You can shoot movies that look like moving miniature models. You create the

miniature model effect by choosing the upper and lower portions of the scene

that will be blurred, and the playback speed, which makes people and objects

in the scene move quickly during playback. Audio will not be recorded.

Choose _.

Follow Steps 1 - 2 on p. 61 to choose _.

A white frame (the area that will not be

blurred) appears on the screen.

Choose the area to keep in focus.

Press the DISP.button.

Move the zoom lever to change the frame

size, and press the ,_v buttons to change

the frame position.

Choose a playback speed.

Press the MENUbutton.

choose a playback speed.

Press the MENUbutton to complete the

setting and restore the shooting screen.

Shoot.

Press the movie button.

To stop shooting the movie, press the

Recording will automatically stop when the clip file size reaches 4 GB, or when the

recording time reaches approximately 29 minutes and 59 seconds when shooting in _,

and approximately 1 hour when shooting in _.

Recording may stop even if the maximum clip length has not been reached on some

memory cards. SD Speed Class 6 or higher memory cards are recommended.

You can lock the exposure or change it in 1/3 steps within a range of-2 to +2

before shooting.

Lock the exposure.

Press the A button to lock the exposure.

The exposure shift bar appears.

Press the ,_ button again to release the

lock.

Change the exposure.

While watching the screen, turn the :!:'ii_dial

to adjust the exposure.

Shoot.

Press the movie button.

To stop shooting the movie, press the

movie button again.

Wind Filter suppresses noise when the wind is strong. However, unnatural

sound may result when used to record in locations with no wind.

Press the MENUbutton to choose [Wind

Filter] in the 0 tab, then press the ,_

buttons to choose [On].

The following functions can be used in the same way as for still images.

However, depending on the Shooting mode, settings may not be available or

may not have any effect.

Zooming in More Closely On Subjects

The sound of zoom operations will be recorded.

You can trim the beginnings and ends of recorded movies.

Choose _.

Follow Steps 1 - 3 on p. 32 to choose _<,

then press the @ button.

The movie editing panel and the movie

editing bar will appear.

Set the editing range.

Press the A'v" buttons to choose &_ or

If you press the _ _ buttons or turn the _i_

dial to move _, ok& will appear at points

where the movie can be edited. If you

choose _, you can trim the beginning of

the movie from ok_. If you choose _, you

can trim the end of the movie from ok_.

Even if you move _ to a point other than a

o_&, only the portion from the nearest ok&

to the left will be trimmed when &_ is

chosen. Only the portion from the nearest

ok_ to the right will be trimmed when _ is

chosen.

Check the edited movie.

Press the A'v buttons to choose !1_, then

press the @ button. The edited movie will

play.

To edit the movie again, repeat Step 2.

To cancel editing, press the Av buttons

to choose :_D•After pressing the @

button, press the 4_ buttons or turn the

_i_!ii_dial to choose [OK], then press the @

button again.
