Curtiss-Wright Enertech Ball Cartridge Valve Istruzioni per l'installazione e il funzionamento

General Information
BALL CARTRIDGE VALVE (BCV)
The Ball Cartridge Valve (BCV) is a quarter-turn valve with an offset ball and
a top entry cartridge design. The offset ball design provides bubble-tight
sealing capability at low pressures via mechanical loading of seals; this
sealing capability is enhanced at high pressures via pressure-energized
assistance. The camming action of the offset ball leads to a rapid decrease
of the mechanical loads on the seat, as the valve moves from the closed to
the open position.
The valve has bi-directional capability and can be designed to seal against
reverse flow. The internal components (seat, ball, seals, bearings, etc.) are
all contained in the cartridge assembly, and the parallel machined body
allows for easy installation/removal of the cartridge in the field. The valve
can be provided with the operators illustrated in Figures 1-3. Other options
are available upon request.
Storage
Inspect for any damage that may have occurred during shipment, prior to
storage. Contact your shipper immediately if damage is found. Valve flange
faces and/or butt-weld preparations are coated with rust inhibitor, then
covered with an impact barrier. Valves and actuation equipment should
be stored in the as-shipped condition indoors to protect them from harsh
environments including humidity and dust. Refer to the operator manual for
special long term storage requirements of actuation equipment.
Unpacking
Remove any shipping material and protective covers. Inspect the valve
internals for foreign object debris, then clean if necessary. Appropriate
handling equipment must be used when lifting the valve and actuator
assembly safely into position. Only use lifting points specified on supplied
Top Assembly drawing. Do not use actuator lifting points to lift the complete
valve and operator assembly. Pay attention so that slings or braces do not
damage the operator.

Pre-Installation Safety Information
The valves shall be installed, operated and maintained in accordance with these procedures. Always follow standard safety procedures set forth
by the law and regulations required by your employer, end-users, and jurisdiction authorities. Any transportation, unpacking, lifting, installation,
operation, and maintenance of the system shall be made by expert, trained, and qualified personnel.
Warning: When lifting a valve with an attached actuator assembly, be aware that the center of gravity may be above the lifting point.
Additional support must be provided to prevent the valve and actuator assembly from flipping or rotating. Failure to do so can cause serious
injury to personnel and/or damage to the equipment.
Installation
Verify the valve’s name plate against the packing list and applicable documents for proper identification. Use lifting devices rated for the
equipment weight and suitable for safe installation.
Valves shall be installed in a manner that will not support the weight of the line and line expansion; strain shall be isolated external to the valve.
Optimal installation requires the valve to be installed with the flow arrow marked on the valve body pointing downstream of the pump or pressure
source. Position the valve to allow access to the operator. Operator and cartridge removal must be possible for in-line service.
Flanged valves should be installed using the proper gasket and procedures specified by National and International Standards/Codes. Butt weld
ends shall be welded in accordance with proper Standard Code welding procedures. Welding shall be done on the valve body before installing the
valve cartridge.
Install the valve operator according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Refer to pneumatic, hydraulic or electric actuators section for setting or
adjusting the open and close stops for the operator.
Fully stroke the valve through its operational range multiple times to ensure the proper operation. Note any special installation instructions
specific to the application.
Operations
Although the valve is bi-directional and can seal in either direction, ensure that the valve has been installed with designated flow direction. The
valve strokes 90° between full open and closed positions. The valve is torque seated, with the maximum closing torque applied at the end of the
close stroke. Under high differential pressures, the un-seating torque may be as high or higher than the seating torque.
Note: Do not over torque the valve into the closed position. Over torque may cause damage to the valve and void the warranty.
Pneumatic, Hydraulic or Electric Actuators
If the actuator has been installed prior to receipt, check that air, hydraulic, and electrical supply lines are connected per the manufacturer’s
specifications. Verify that the actuator mounting bolts are properly tightened.
If the actuator has not been previously installed on the valve, mount the actuator and tighten the bolting to the proper torque specification per the
provided Top Assembly drawing. Install the pneumatic, electrical, or hydraulic connections to the actuator per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Caution: Adjust the operator stops to engage at the specified stroke position. The valve does not have integral stops.
Maintenance
The valve does not require periodic lubrication to provide continuous trouble-free service. If the valve does not seal properly, or if there are
difficulties smoothly stroking the valve, it may be due to foreign object debris within the cartridge assembly. Cleaning may be required in order to
remove the debris.

Cartridge Removal and Installation
1. Isolate the valve section. Depressurize and drain the pipeline.
2. Stroke the valve to the open position. If equipped, remove the drain
plug and flush.
3. Remove the valve operator.
• If an actuator is installed on the valve, reverse the steps
described in the pneumatic, hydraulic or electric actuators
section for the removal of the actuator.
• If a manual operator is installed, remove per manufacturer’s
instructions.
4. In a cross pattern, loosen and remove bonnet bolting. Remove the
cartridge from the valve body (see Figure 4).
5. Inspect the cartridge for signs of damage.
• Clean the cartridge by flushing all internal surfaces with clean
water. Flush several times with the ball in the open and closed
positions. Ensure that no foreign object debris is between the
ball and seat.
• If damaged, replace with a new cartridge. Remove the
protective covering from the new cartridge assembly.
6. Prior to installing the new cartridge, clean the inside of the valve body.
7. Remove and replace the used bonnet and seat gasket. Replace with
new seals. The replacement seal and gasket are shipped loose as part
of the soft goods kit.
8. Install the cartridge assembly by carefully lowering into the valve body.
9. Torque the nuts on each stud to the proper specification in a cross
pattern method in 25% increments per Top Assembly drawing.
10. Reinstall the valve operator.
• Reinstall the actuator according to the steps described in the
pneumatic, hydraulic or electric actuators section.
• Reinstall the manual operator per the manufacturer’s
instructions.
11. Fully stroke the valve several times to assure proper sealing and
smooth operation.

device to the two eye bolts or jack screws located on the top of
the bonnet. The cartridge must be pulled straight out from the
body to ensure easy removal.
