1.2 Overview the CLa21
The Tecnare CLa21 line source is a compact high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker,
member of the ARRAY family of loudspeakers. Its extended high-frequency headroom delivers
clarity, precision, and a unique proximity effect over its wide operating frequency range of 60 Hz
to 18 kHz. This headroom combines with a 75-degree constant directivity dispersion patter in
the horizontal plane.
The compact size and low weight of a
CLa21 line source complies with rigging
and visual limitations. Any on-site
deployment can be easily and quickly
achieved thanks to improvements over the
previous generation rigging system. Is
equally suited to touring, rental, and fixed
installation applications. High power-to-
size ratio, low profile, and ease of use
makes it an outstanding system in
corporate AV applications, and ideal for smaller venues such as theatres, ballrooms, and clubs.
In spite of its small size, CLa21 produces a peak output of 142 dB SPL with exceptionally
frequency response, making it capable of filling much larger spaces than one might expect.
A wide range of system configurations are available for the sound designer and system
engineer, allowing high level of creative freedom. With a fixed horizontal directivity of 75° and a
vertical inter-element variation from 0˚ to 13°, the CLa21 line source is fully configurable to
match any audience geometry.
For low-frequency enhancement, CLa21 pairs with Tecnare SW-18VR, which can be
flown as part of CLa21 arrays without transition hardware. The SW-18VR shares with CLa21
the advantages of excellent power-to-size ratio, improved efficiency, and versatility.
Tecnare recommends operating the CLa21 loudspeaker on a DSP controller. Tecnare
only recommends using presets developed by Tecnare Sound System. The DP-Series
Processor and T-Series Advanced System Amplifiers are ideal for this purpose.
Thanks to dedicated factory presets, it constitutes an extremely advanced and precise
drive system for the enclosures. In high-end installation projects, the T-Series amplified
controller can deliver maximum power headroom and the best possible performances. With one
transducer section per output channel and the independent DSP treatment of each loudspeaker
enclosure, this approach brings maximum discretization with a one-to-one-to-one link, from
input-to-processing-to-enclosure.
The DP-4896 Digital Loudspeaker Controllers and the T-Series amplified controllers feature
the unique Virtual Xover limiter for passive 2-way enclosures, a Tmax transducer thermal
limiters and Xmax over-excursion protection limiter.
