What is Q?
The Q is a so-called modular (same for each
ear) CIC* device with a standard fitting, called
soft tip.
For the power supply, a cell battery of type
10 (yellow sticker) is required. The device is
provided with an advanced microprocessor,
which ensures the processing and amplification
of the sound, adapted to your particular
hearing problem.
The Q is provided with a microprocessor
including the following characteristics:
• An adaptive ‘antifeedback’ system – this
prevents spontaneous ‘whistling’ of the
device.
• An adaptive ‘noise reduction’ system – this
improves the hearing performance in noisy
environments.
• Four different memories – this means that
you may use up to 4 different settings while
programming the Q. You may request your
dispenser to program to your special needs
(such as a special setting for listening to
music or a setting where the Q serves as a
damper).
The Q uses a soft tip with Large-Medium-
Small sizes. The size of the soft tip depends
on the size of your ear canal. The choice for
a good size is extremely important. If the
soft tip is too large, the device might become
less comfortable to wear. If the soft tip is too
small, the device might exhibit spontaneous
whistling. During fitting, your dispenser will
try to find out the size of soft tip that suits you
best.
One of the most occurring reasons for
reparation is damaging or clogging of the
speaker due to ear wax. The Q has a built-in
system that prevents the intrusion of ear wax
into the device. As a result, the components
in the module will always remain undamaged
and unclogged. In case the soft tip will be
clogged, it can easily be cleaned or replaced.
As a result of the combination of size, shape,
innovative construction and material, Q offers
a range of important advantages:
• Almost invisible.
• Minimal distortion of your own voice
(occlusion).
• High sound gain by positioning of the
speaker close to the ear drum.
• Natural sound, with high directional
hearing thanks to an empty auricle, and
minimum wind noise thanks to deep
microphone positioning.
• Protects against damage caused by ear
wax.
• Suitable for cell phone use.
• Suitable for sporting activities.
• Easy to use and maintain.
• Contemporary design.

Q - module (A)
Pushbutton(7)
After the Q has been set up with more than one program (memories), the push button can be
used to select between various programs. For a description about how it works, please refer to the
chapter ‘Switching between programs’ (pg. 17).
Programmingcontact(6)
Using the programming contact, the settings of the Q can be changed by your dispenser.
Microphoneopening(8)
Here the microphone is located that picks up the sound, which is processed and amplified by the
Q.
Casing(A)
The casing has been made of durable plastic. For the maintenance of the casing, please refer to
the chapter ´Maintenance and use´ (pg. 18).
Sealingring(4)
The sealing ring ensures an acoustic closure between the casing of the module (A, image) and the
soft tip (B, image).
Batterycompartment(2)
This compartment comprises of the battery - a type 10 cell battery – that provides the power supply
for Q. The device is switched off upon the removal of the battery.

Lamellas(10)
The lamellas ensure a seal, which prevents the sound of the speaker to interfere with that of the
microphone. Additionally, the lamellas provide a good ‘grip’ inside the ear.
Battery (C)
Q uses type 10 cell batteries, in the package indicated with a yellow sticker. The device is switched
off upon the removal of the battery. The flat plus pole (+) of the battery makes contact with the
large battery contact (nr.3, image) that lies on the larger, round facet of the battery compartment.
The spherical minus pole (-) with its circular groove makes contact with the small battery contact
(nr. 1, image).
Batterycontacts(1,3)
The battery contacts transport the supply voltage from the battery to the microprocessor inside the
device. The contacts are made of a stainless alloy.
Speakeropening(5)
The processed and amplified sound emits through this opening and is directed via the soft tip
towards the ear drum.
Soft tip (B)
The soft tip of the Q is made of a biocompatible plastic and designed as a disposable,
Thus enabling it to be replaced regularly. For its maintenance and cleaning, please refer to the
chapter ‘Maintenance and use’ (pg. 18). The illustration can be different from your choice of size
for soft tip.
Pullcord(9)
To take the Q out of the ear, the pull cord is used. After insertion of the Q the pull cord will be
situated behind the tragus (pg. 14), which makes it nearly invisible.
Soundopening(11)
The processed and amplified sound emits through this opening and is directed towards the ear
drum.

Removing the battery
Keep the module horizontal and use your finger
to remove the battery.
The daily use of Q
Placing the battery
While using a new battery: first remove the
sticker from the + pole.
Keep the module horizontal:
• The small battery contact points upwards,
the large battery contact downwards.
• Use your other hand to hold the battery: the
large flat side of the battery (+ pole) points
downwards.
• Insert the battery between the battery
contacts of the module: the flat side of the
battery should be placed on the large battery
contact.

Removing Q from the soft tip
Keep the module firm and use your other
hand to pull the pull cord downwards.
Inserting Q in the soft tip
• Hold the soft tip firmly with the pull
cord pointing upwards.
• Use your other hand to hold the
module: the battery should point
downwards, the small battery contact
being on the side of the pull cord. The
flat side of the module should also
point to the pull cord.
• Insert the module by turning it over
into the soft tip.
• Check the position of the module inside
the soft tip. If the position is not like the
one illustrated in the image: hold the
soft tip firmly and turn and/or push the
module into its correct position.
• Hold the module firmly and pull at
the pull cord only to make sure that
the module is placed sufficiently deep
inside the soft tip.
• If necessary, repeat the last two steps.

• The ear canal sometimes has a bend and during insertion the device should be directed over
this bend. In that case, the device should be slantingly pushed forward with the forefinger
(battery side towards the nose) and subsequently pressed slightly backwards during the
insertion (battery side towards the back of the head). By doing this, the device will follow the
shape of the ear canal.
N.b.: It is impossible to insert the device ‘too deep’.
Placing Q in the ear
• Put the end of the soft tip with the ‘star’ loosely in the ear. The pull cord is situated behind the
tragus, directing towards the nose.
• Insert the device into the ear by pressing on the flat side of the device (with the push button) in
a small circular motion. Now gently ‘massage’ the device deeper into the ear. If the mouth is
opened wide, insertion will be easier.

Make sure your hands are clean while inserting the Q. Make-up, crème, body oil, gel,
hairspray and likewise products can dirty up the module and can, for example, contribute to
the clogging of the microphone opening.

Ideally, the flat side of the module (where the push button is situated) will be flush to the entry of
the ear canal after insertion. In this way, the device is fairly invisible and the sound optimal. There
are cases where the ear canal is too small: In that case, it is possible for the device to protrude a
few millimeters.
If the pull cord protrudes after the insertion of the device, after which it becomes visible, it can be
easily custom-cut by the dispenser.
Removing Q from the ear
Hold the pull cord firmly and pull it – always slowly – out of the ear.
Switching between programs
If the Q has been configured with more than one program (memories), the push button can be
used to select between various programs.
After the insertion of the battery the device is set by default to program 1. Just a short touch to the
push button will produce 2 beeps, indicating that program 2 has been switched on.
After another short touch to the push button, three beeps will be audible indicating that program
3 has been switched. A maximum of 4 programs can be set up. While program 4 is active, after
pressing the push button one beep becomes audible and the device sets back to program 1.
Fitting procedure and conguration
The fitting procedure and configuration of the hearing aid is both an important and individual
process. For this reason, consult your dispenser for any complaints about the fitting or configuration.
Your dispenser is the authorized person to carry out any necessary modifications.
