Not suitable for children under 15 years.
The transformer must not be moved while the train is being
operated. After the transformer has been turned off, it must
never be carried by holding it by its power cord.
1. Read the following safety information before using a
Märklin transformer for the first time:
• Alltransformersmustbepluggedonlyintoanoutletwith
thehouseholdcurrentindicatedonthefaceplateofthe
transformer.
Example:Identicationplateforthe120volttransformer.

• Mountthetransformeronasturdybase.Neveroperate
thetransformeronabasethatiswetorthatisreadily
ammable.
• Thistransformerisnotatoy.Itisdesignedforthecontrol
ofamodelrailroadlayout.
• Thetransformermustbeunpluggedfromtheelectrical
outletbeforebeingmoved.Ifthetransformerhasbeenin
operation,letitcooloffbeforemovingit.
• Inspecttheconditionofthepowercordandthetransfor-
merhousingatregularintervalsfordamage.Thisvisual
inspectionshouldonlybedonewhenthepowercords
forallofthetransformersbeingusedareunpluggedfrom
thehouseholdcurrent.Ifyouhavetheleastsuspicion
thatthetransformerisdamaged,youshouldnotuseit
againuntilithasbeenthoroughlyinspectedandrepaired
byanauthorizedserviceorganization(example:Märklin
ServiceDepartment).The power cord for the transformer
must never be replaced.Inthisinstancedisposeofthe
transformerinanauthorizedmanner,orsendittothe
MärklinServiceDepartmentforexchange.
The following safety precautions must always be
observed when connecting more than one transformer
to a model railroad layout or setup:
• Thepowercordsforallexistingtransformersconnected
tothelayoutmustrstbeunpluggedwhenconnecting
electricalpowerconsumers(examples:feederconnec-

fortwoormoretransformersareconnected
witheachotherinadditiontotheconnectionsbetweenthe
browngroundsockets/terminals.Insuchasituationifthe

powercordforonetransformerisstillpluggedintoahouse-
holdcurrentoutlet,adangerousalternatingcurrentwillbe
presentinthebaremetalpartsofthepowercordsplugsfor
the other transformers.
Always observe the following:
Thepowercordsforseveraltransformersshouldtherefore
alwaysbepluggedintoacommonpowerdistributionstrip.
Thetransformersmustalwaysbeconnectedtoordiscon-
nectedfromthehouseholdcurrentbypluggingorunplug-
gingthepowercordforthedistributionstrip!
• Electricalpowerconsumers(examples:feedercon-
nections,turnouts,signals,lights,etc.)mustneverbe
connectedtotwoormoretransformersatthesametime,
becausethissituationwillcreatethedangerousalternat-
ingcurrentdescribedabove.
Important:
Twoormoresolenoidaccessoriesconnectedtogetherto
aswitchortoacircuittrackmustnotreceivetheirpower
fromdifferenttransformers.
• Nevertouchanybaremetalpartsonalayout,before
the entire layout is completely without power, i. e. all
transformers must be disconnected from the household
current.
• Alocomotivemustneverbestoppedcontinuouslyover
theseparationpointbetweentwotrackpowercircuits
inconventionaloperationwithalternatingcurrenttrans-
formers!
Transformers must always be connected to or dis-
connected from the household current by plugging or
unplugging the power cord for the distribution strip!

Important!
Thefeederwiresfromthelayouttothetransformer
mustneverbepluggedintoahouseholdpower
outlet.Makesureyourchildrenareawareofthis
danger!
2. Connecting the Transformer
Makesurethatthepowercordsforallofthetransformers
usedwithyourlayoutaredisconnectedfromthehousehold
currentbeforeconnectingatransformertothelayout!

A light or solenoid accessory must never be connected to
two different transformers at the same time.
If two solenoid accessories are connected to
the same circuit track or control box, then both
solenoid accessories must be powered from the
same transformer.
3. Operations with the Transformer

intoawalloutlet.
Modelrailroadwithseveraltransformers:Plugthepower
cordsforthetransformersintoapowerstripandplugthe
powercordforthelatterintoawalloutlet.Ifyouhavea
powerstripwithanon/offswitch,turnthisonafterhaving
carriedoutthestepsabove.
Operating Trains with the 32 W Transformer
Thelocomotive‘sspeedischangedbyturningthespeed
controlknobonthe32WTransformer.
Turntotheright–thelocomotiverunsfaster
Turntotheleft–thelocomotiverunsslower
Turntothelefttothe“0”setting–thelocomotivestops.
Changingdirection
Thelocomotive‘sdirectionisreversedbyturningthespeed
controlknobtotheleftpastthe“0”setting.
Several feeder Tracks
Onmediumsizeandlargerlayoutspowermustbefedtothe
trackatseveralpoints.
Several track circuits
Inordertobeabletocontrolseverallocomotivessepara-
tely,thelayoutmustbedividedintoseveraltrackcircuits
byinstallingthirdrailinsulators(7522forKtrack,74030for
Ctrack).Eachtrackcircuithasitsown32WTransformer
withatleastonefeedertrack.Pleasebesuretoobserve
atalltimesthesafetyprecautionsgivenabovewhenusing
severaltransformers

Connecting Lights or Solenoid Accessories

mersdescribedintheseinstructionshaveapairofterminals
forthisconnection(yellow+brownterminalclips).

4. Short Circuit or Overload on a Transformer
Abuilt-inthermalswitchprotectstheTransformerfrom
damageincaseofanoverloadorashortcircuit.Locomo-
tivesonthelayoutwillcometoastop,accessoriescannot
beoperatedandalllampsconnectedtotheTransformerwill
goout.
The following procedure is recommended:
1. Unplugthepowercordsforalltransformersfromtheir
outlets.
2. Lookforthecauseoftheshortcircuitonthelayoutand
correctit.
3. Afterabout1minutethethermalswitchwillgobackto
beingon.Afterthisamountoftimehaspassed,allTrans-
formerscanbeplacedinoperationagain.
IftheTransformershouldshutoffagainandyouareunable
tolocateashortcircuit,thentheTransformerisoverloaded.
InthiscasethenumberofusersconnectedtotheTransfor-
mermustbereduced.
Other Information
AllMärklinproductsasdeliveredconformtotherelevant
regulationsonpreventinginterferencewithradioandtelevi-
sionreception.Wornoutmaterialsand/orfaultymainte-
nanceoftheproductaswellasoperationnotinaccordance
withtheinstructionscanleadtoincreasedinterferencewith
radioandtelevisionreception.Aninformationsheetonthis
subjectisavailableonrequest.
Thewiringdiagramsthatapplytothedifferentturnoutsor
signalscanbefoundintheinstructionsthecomewiththese
products.
Checking the Polarity
Whentwoormoretraincontroltransformersfordifferent
trackcircuitsareusedonalayout,itmayhappenthat
differentpolaritiesforthetransformersmaycauseastrong
sparkonthepickupshoeofalocomotivepassingoverthe
separationpointbetweentwotrackcircuits.Inthisinstance
theplugonthepowercordforoneofthetransformersmust
beremovedfromitsoutlet,turned180°andpluggedback
intotheoutlet.
