Multi-function
button ( )
In power-on state, press and hold the button for more than two
seconds to enter into pairing mode. The LED alternates blinking
red and white.
• When the phone rings, quickly press the multi-function ( )
button to answer the phone call.
• To end a call, press the multi-function ( ) button twice.
Note: For Android users: make sure that the “Phone Audio” function is active in the
Bluetooth settings. For more information see “Pairing your speaker with a Bluetooth
device (Android, iOS, and PC)” on page 9.

Press + or – to increase or decrease the volume.

(power) button
• Slide the switch to the right to power on the speaker –
The LED lights white.
• Slide the switch to the left to turn the speaker off – The
LED turns off.
When power is on, the unit automatically connects to the last
Bluetooth device that was connected, within six seconds. If the
last paired Bluetooth device is not in range, the unit automatically
searches for another device to pair to.

USB port Plug the USB cable into this port.

AUX IN jack
Plug an external audio device into this jack. If a cable is inserted
into this AUX IN jack, the source is automatically switched to AUX
IN. Unplug the cable and the source automatically switches back
to Bluetooth.

Power
• LED is white when the speaker is turned on. LED is off when the
speaker is turned off.
Charging
• When the speaker is off, the LED is red while charging. After charging
is complete, the LED turns off.
• When the speaker is on, the LED is solid red while charging. After
charging is complete, the red LED turns off and the white LED turns
on.
Other
• No Bluetooth connection, the white LED flashes slowly.
• Bluetooth is in pairing mode, the white and red LEDs alternate
blinking.
• Successful Bluetooth connection, solid white LED.
• The white LED blinks quickly when increasing/decreasing the
volume. When the minimum/maximum volume is reached, the LED
is solid white.
• The LED quickly blinks red when the battery is low. The speaker
remains on for approximately 10 more minutes.

Setting up your speaker
Charging your speaker
When your speaker’s battery is low, the red LED blinks.
To charge your speaker:
• Connect the charging cable to your Bluetooth speaker and to an
available USB port on your computer or a USB charging station.
Using your speaker
Turning your speaker on and off
To turn your speaker on and off:

Slide the
(power) switch to the right to turn your speaker on.

Pairing your speaker with a Bluetooth device (Android,
iOS, and PC)
Note: Bluetooth range is 33 feet (10 meters).
To pair your speaker with a Bluetooth device:

Make sure that your Bluetooth device supports the Bluetooth A2DP or
HFP protocol and that your device is not paired with another device. To
determine what Bluetooth protocol your device supports, see the
documentation that came with your device.

Make sure that your speaker is turned ON.

If the LED is not blinking white/red, press and hold the multi-function
button
(
) on your Bluetooth speaker until the LED begins
blinking white/red.

Make sure that your Bluetooth device is within 33 feet of your speaker.

Turn on your Bluetooth device, turn on the Bluetooth feature, then set
your device to pairing mode. For instructions, see the documentation
that came with your Bluetooth device.

On your Bluetooth device, select “Modal MD-SPBT01”. Your Bluetooth
speaker pairs with the Bluetooth device and the LED lights solid white.
Note: Your Bluetooth speaker can remember as many as eight (8) different Bluetooth
devices. For more information on entering pairing mode, see the instructions that
came with your Bluetooth device.

To unpair, turn off Bluetooth on your Bluetooth device.
Note: If your Bluetooth device requires a password for pairing, enter 0000. If that
does not work, enter 1234.
Reconnecting to a paired device
The Bluetooth connection is lost if you:
• Turn off your Bluetooth speaker
• Move the Bluetooth device out of range of your Bluetooth speaker
• Turn off your Bluetooth device
• Turn off the Bluetooth feature on your Bluetooth device
When your speaker system is not paired to a device, the white LED
blinks slowly.

To reconnect a paired device:
1
Turn on your Bluetooth speaker.

Turn on your Bluetooth device and the Bluetooth feature on the device.

The LED on your speaker system blinks white and red and your Bluetooth
speaker searches for the last connected Bluetooth device.
If the device is within range of your Bluetooth speaker, with no
obstructions between your Bluetooth speaker and the device, pairing
should take place. When this occurs, the white LED on your speakers
lights solid.
Note: The auto connect feature may not work with some Bluetooth devices. If a
device does not automatically reconnect, you need to select your Bluetooth speaker
on your Bluetooth device.
Connecting to a device with an audio cable
To connect to a device using an audio cable:
• Connect a 3.5 mm audio cable (not included) from your speaker to your
audio device.
Note: When an audio cable is connected to the AUX IN port, the speaker
automatically switches to AUX mode. Your Bluetooth device may still be paired to the
speaker, but you will not be able to control the volume level during playback.
Disconnect the audio cable to switch back to Bluetooth mode.
Controlling volume and playback
To control volume and playback:

Use the controls on your audio device to play, pause, and select tracks.

Press +or –to raise or lower the volume (make sure that the volume level
on your Bluetooth or AUX device is at least 50%).

Turn your Bluetooth speaker face down to mute the sound.
