You must read the instructions in the Manual before linking, configuring, operating or maintaining
the repeater.
Installation and operation of the isolator module must be carried out by technical personnel after
reading this Manual.

1. Description and operation
1.1. Function
Interface Repeater Module RM-1 «RUBETEK» is designed to extend the length, combine and
branch CAN lines in «RUBETEK» systems.
The Repeater is designed for continuous round-the-clock operation and is a restorable, periodically
serviced product.
Repeater functionality:
•supported connection types: bus, ring, star;
•data communication LED indication.

2. Intended use
2.1. Preparation for use
ATTENTION!If repeater was in conditions of negative temperature, keep it at least 4 hours
at room temperature (25 ± 10 ºС) to prevent moisture condensation.
2.1.1. Open the package, make sure that the completeness of the isolator module corresponds to
table 2.
2.1.2. Conduct an external visual inspection, make sure that there are no visible mechanical
damages (chips, cracks, dents) and traces of moisture.
2.2. Repeater location
The repeater can be installed on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. The Repeater should be
installed so that the length of the CAN lines between adjacent repeaters does not exceed 250 m.
ATTENTION! The maximum data transmission rate depends on the length of the CAN line,
the number of repeaters and branches.
Do not mount repeater:
●outdoors, in places where there is a possibility of water getting on the repeater case;
●in rooms with a high content of dust, suspensions of building materials in the air,
vapors and aerosols that cause corrosion;
●in places of exposure to powerful electromagnetic interference and heat radiation;
●near high-frequency communications, power cables, routes.
2.3. Recommendations for the organization of the CAN interface and power line
ATTENTION! It is recommended to place power lines and CAN interface wires no closer
than 1 m from power and high-frequency cables.

7
ATTENTION! All terminal blocksof the deviceare designed for a cable cross section from
0.75 to 2.5 mm 2.
The CAN line is used to transmit data between devices. Notably, the following requirements are
imposed on the parameters of the cable:
•cable lines must be made with using fire-resistant cables with copper cores, flame retardant for
group laying, low-smoke fire-resistant (LSFR) or halogen-free (HFFR).
•CAN line length must not exceed 250 m.
•capacitance per unit length between wires H and L of the interface must not exceed 60 pF/m.
To prevent the influence of electrostatic interference and signal distortion due to reflection, the
line must be terminated at both ends with terminating resistors. To do this, you need to install switches
(jumpers) on the boards of the terminal devices.
The repeater is connected to a 24V DC supply line. For power line organization it is also
recommended to use fire-resistant cables with copper cores, flame retardant for group laying, low-smoke
fire-resistant (LSFR) or halogen-free (HFFR).
ATTENTION! It is recommended to organize the power lines and CAN lines of the
repeater with separate cables.
2.4. Repeater connection diagram
ATTENTION! The repeater has two galvanically isolated CAN interfaces. At the logical
level, data packets are exchanged between interfaces, which makes it possible to use
various types of connections.
Repeater allows you to use the connection types "bus", "star", "daisy chain", "mixed connection".
ATTENTION! Connection of devices to the common CAN-line can be carried out by stubs
no longer than 30 cm.
2.4.1. «Bus» connection
You are allowed to connect no more than 30 repeaters to one bus. Terminating resistor switches
must be provided on devices at the ends of the bus. In this case, the switches for the CAN line must be
installed on the board of the device for receiving and transmitting data and at the input of repeater No. 30.
Since all repeaters are terminal devices for CAN lines, the switches must also be installed at the output of
each repeater.

8
2.4.2. «Star» connection.
This connection allows you to implementseveral CAN-bus stubs from one point. Thefigure shows
the stub of three repeaters. Since all three devices are terminators for a common line, terminating resistor
switches need to be installed at the input of only one of the three repeaters. Switches must be installed at
the output of each repeater, since each of them is the terminal in its own CAN line. Switches are also
placed in terminal devices.
2.4.3. Daisy chain

9
A maximum of four repeaters are allowed. The length of the CAN lines between repeaters should
not exceed 250 meters. Terminal resistor switches must be installed at the ends of all CAN lines.
2.4.4. Mixed connection
Simultaneous use of different types of connection is allowed on the same CAN bus, subject to the
limitations of each type. For example, in the diagram below, the signal from any device for receiving and
transmitting data passes through no more than 4 series-connected repeaters, because such a restriction is
contained in the description of the series connection.
2.5. Installation of the repeater

10
Make a marking of the surface for the mounting holes of the case at the chosen place of installation of
the repeater. Drill two holes with a diameter of 6 mm., 30-35 mm deep.
ATTENTION! Repeater can be installed on a DIN rail.
Fix the base of the repeater case to the surface using the dowels and screws supplied.
1 –Dowel;
2 –Case;
3 –Screw.
2.6. Repeater connection
Remove the repeater case cover. To do this, unscrew the
fixing screws on the rear side of the repeater. Connect
the wires of the CAN lines to the corresponding
terminals of the repeater.
When using a shielded cable for laying CAN lines,
connect the shield to the GND1, GND2 terminals.
Connect the power line wires to the appropriate
terminals of the repeater observing the polarity.
ATTENTION! Incorrect connection may
damage the device.
ATTENTION! When connecting, you must be
guided by the requirements described in par.
