INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasin this UFO illuminator.
Please read these instructions fully before connectin your unit to the electrical
supply, and keep them for future reference.
The UFO Compact DMX are a ran e of low profile illuminators which use 150W metal
halide dischar e lamps to ive much reater bri htness than those powered by
halo en lamps.
These models have a fast re-lampin feature (the lamp is mounted on a pull out
hatch at the rear) and are fitted with a DMX controller allowin a ran e of in-built
effects or control via a standalone controller.
THIS PRODUCT MUST BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE
INSTALLATION CODE BY A PERSON FAMILIAR WITH THE CONSTRUCTION AND
OPERATION OF THE PRODUCT AND THE HAZARDS INVOLVED
IMPORTANT
Do not operate without complete lamp enclosure in place or if lens is dama ed.
KEEP HARNESS IN PLACE WHEN IN OPERATION.

• Do not touch or attempt to remove the lamp while it is hot.
• Ensure that the power supply is correct for the unit before powerin it up.
• Always ensure that the unit is properly EARTHED.

• Never attempt to tamper with the wirin or other internal components.
• Keep the unit away from as, oil and any other flammable or explosive materials.

INSTALLATION GUIDE
In order for the Compact illuminator to function safely and efficiently it must be
installed accordin to this user manual. Please read all sections thorou hly before
switchin on the illuminator.
POWER SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS
Before plu in in the unit, please make sure that the supply is correct. Failure to do
so could cause the unit to malfunction. The unit requires a 120VAC 60Hz supply and
it MUST BE EARTHED. The illuminator units are provided with a cordset fitted with a
standard 3-pin plu .
POSITIONING THE UNIT
The illuminator can be mounted horizontally, vertically or upside-down on any flat
surface. Keyhole slots are provided on the base of the unit to allow for securin to a
surface. The illuminator is only suitable for use in a dry area.
If the unit is bein mounted at a hi her than the round level, block access below
the work area before installin .
Verify that any screws or bolts can safely bear the wei ht of the illuminator.

Verify that the supportin structure can safely bear the wei ht of all installed units,
cables and any other equipment. The minimum thickness of the mountin surface
must be no less than 19mm.
For horizontal mountin , it is recommended that the illuminator is secured to a solid
surface usin 4 x M4 or M5 screws or bolts and the keyhole slots. This is particularly
important if the illuminator location is not at round floor level.
To mount the illuminator vertically, first securely install 4 x M4 or M5 screws or bolts
at the required distances so that they will line up with the keyhole slots. The
illuminator can then be mounted onto them and slid into position. The bolts or
screws MUST then be fully ti htened.

It is recommended that a ap of 200mm (8”) or more is le around the unit. This is to
allow air to circulate and prevent overheatin . The location must have free ventila-
tion.

CONNECTION
There are 3 main connections required, the fibre port, the mains power and the DMX
connections. Connect and secure the fibre optic connector to the fibre port before
connectin the electrical supply. Never run the illuminator with the fibre connector
unplu ed. The fibre optic connector is secured into the port by removin the small
cover on the top of the illuminator (see item 11 on pa e 3), and ti htenin the
retainin screw. The cover should then be replaced.
DMX data connections are provided at the rear of the illuminator, connection details
as follows

last illuminator on the network usin a terminator plu
OPERATION
This illuminator can be operated in stand alone mode, or can be connected to a
compatible DMX controller.
In Standalone Mode the Compact DMX can be used as a sin le independent
illuminator or in a Master Slave confi uration with several illuminators connected
to ether usin DMX leads. In Master Slave confi uration all addresses are set the
same and whatever pro ramme is selected on the “Master” DMX illuminator will also
be observed on the “Slave” illuminators.
In DMX mode the DMX controller can be pro rammed to control Compact DMX
illuminators either in a block (all same addresses) or independently (all different
addresses).

When the DMX illuminator is powered up the unit will RESET durin which, the
followin flashin messa e will be displayed on the front panel display
(Item 4 Pa e 1):
When the illuminator is RESET the followin messa e will be displayed:
This indicates the illuminator has been set to address 001 by default.
PROGRAMMING
At any sta e durin pro rammin , when chan es are made the DMX may o
throu h the RESET phase as described above – this is normal.
Chan in Address
To chan e the address press the 2 buttons to the le of the display (Items 2 & 3 Pa e
1) simultaneously once the small indicator in the bottom ri ht of the display will o
out. Scroll for the required address as follows:
Once the selected address is found, there will be a short delay (may RESET) until the
small indicator illuminates confirmin the address is set.

To access the built in pro rammes as described in the User Guide proceed as
follows. Press the 2 buttons to the le of the display (Items 2 & 3 Pa e 1)
simultaneously twice and the followin messa e will be displayed:
Aer a short delay (may RESET) the small indicator will flash confirmin pro ramme
mode P01 is set as shown below. The illuminator will display white li ht:
Scroll throu h the Built in Pro rams until the desired pro ramme is reached there
will be a short delay (may RESET) until the small indicator flashes confirmin the
address is set. The set pro ramme will now run. The pro ramme will only run if le
in this mode, returnin to the Address Mode will stop the pro ram runnin .
To return to Address Mode press the 2 buttons to the le of the display (Items 2 & 3
Pa e 1) simultaneously three times.
Note 1: There is an Auxiliary mode which may be displayed as shown below. This is
not used. If in this mode press the 2 buttons simultaneously twice to return to
Address mode:
Note 2: In Master/Slave and Remote DMX controller operation the small indicator
flashes to indicate DMX data transmission
