Admissible forces

Forces from evacuating the system, from the weight of other components, and from baking can lead to deformation of the

valve body and to malfunction of the valve. The stress has to be relieved by suitable means, e.g. bellows sections.

Due to the design (very slim) and the mounting possibility (installation between two flanges) no forces other than the screw

forces at the flanges may affect the valve.

Compressed air connection

Compressed air may only be connected if

- valve has been installed into the vacuum system

- moving parts cannot be touched

Connect compressed air to the connection (internal thread R 1/8“, 1/8“ NPT for USA)

Compressed air pressure (min. - max. overpressure): 4 - 7 bar / 55 - 95 psig

Use only clean, dry or slightly oiled air!

Electrical connection

Do not touch any electrically charged parts!

Electrical power may only be connected if

- valve has been installed into the vacuum system

- moving parts cannot be touched

Verify that mains voltage matches voltage stated on the solenoid! Sockets for position indicator and

solenoid are supplied with the valve.

Emergency operation at power failure

In case of a power failure, the valve can be actuated according to the following instructions, provided that there is

compressed air available.

Standard solenoid

Solenoid for impulse actuation (option)

Emergency operation

(slotted screw)

Emergency operation

(slotted screw)

Coil «open»

Coil «closed»

To open the valve:

Turn clockwise

To close the valve:

Turn counter-clockwise

Attention!

Remote operation is only possible if the emergency

operation (slotted screw) is turned counter-clockwise to

its stop.

To open the valve:

Turn slotted screw of solenoid/coil «OPEN» counter-

clockwise to its stop. As soon as valve is open, turn

slotted screw back to its original position.

To close the valve:

Turn slotted screw of solenoid/coil «CLOSED»

counter-clockwise to its stop. As soon as valve is

closed, turn slotted screw back to its original position.

Attention!

Remote operation is only possible of both emergency

operations (slotted screws «OPEN» and «CLOSED»)

are turned clockwise to their stop (initial position).

Compressed air failure

Valve closed: valve remains closed

Valve open: valve position is undefined

Trouble shooting

Valve does not close/open: Power available?

Compressed air available?

Emergency operation in neutral position?

Solenoid defective?

Check voltage!

Check air pressure!

Leak at gate: Clean valve seat and gate seal!

Replace gate seal, if damaged!

Correct air pressure?

Leak at body: Flanges leaktight?

Replace bonnet seal!

Screws at bonnet tightened?

Repairs

Contact VAT for repairs or maintenance. The fabrication No. (F08- . . . . . / . . . . ) marked on the valve body has always to

be specified. It has to be individually decided whether the work can be performed by the customer or has to be carried out

by VAT.

All supplies (e. g. compressed air, electrical power) have to be disconnected for removal/installation of the valve from/into

the system.

Even with disconnected supply, loaded springs and/or air cushions in cylinders can be potential hazards.

Keep fingers and objects away from the valve opening!

Products returned to VAT for repair have to be free of harmful substances such as e.g. toxical, caustic or microbiological

ones. For radioactively contaminated products the customer has to fill in the VAT form «Contamination and Radiation

Report» and to send it with the product. The form is available at VAT. The maximum permissible values indicated in the

form must not be exceeded.

Maintenance

Replacement of gate seal

The figures in brackets refer to the drawing on page 10

1. Vent chambers on either side of valve

2. Open valve

3. Switch off compressed air

4. Switch off electrical power

5. Disconnect compressed air line

6. Remove position indicators (6) (they may be connected to the connecting cable)

7. Remove valve from installation

8. Put valve on a clean place

9. Remove compressed air connection (7)

10. Unclamp snap ring (9) on body side and simultaneously withdraw cylinder tube (8) with attached solenoid and cylinder

cover (10) carefully from bushing (11) and piston (12)

Attention: If the piston is pulled to the open position during withdrawal of the cylinder tube, it has to be pushed back

so that the valve gate (2) is in the closed, but not locked position!

11. Loosen countersunk screw (13) in thread ring (4)

12. Unscrew thread ring (4) from body (1)

Attention: Before removing the thread ring mark its position exactly!

13. Remove screw (14)

14. Hold counter-plate (3) at the bore hole by means of a screwdriver

15. Turn piston (12) clockwise by approx. 45° and pull it slowly backwards

16. Drop out balls (15) from bore hole in counter-plate (3)

Attention: Pull out piston to max. stroke "B"!

DN 63 max. stroke "B" 81.5

DN 80 98.5

DN 100 118.5

17. Withdraw mechanism (counter-plate with attached gate) from body
