Outline
These reference materials explain the equipment connections
and system setup when performing automatic control of the
MT1810A Measurement System.
Equipment Connections
The MT1810A 4 Slot Chassis is controlled over Ethernet using the dedicated MX180000A
Signal Quality Analyzer Control Software installed in the control PC. Consequently, at
automatic control, rather than connecting the user-created automatic control program to the
MT1810A directly, it must be connected via the MX180000A. Control PC and external PC
must have either an Ethernet or GPIB card installed as the interface to control the MT1810A
measurement system automatically. The basic equipment connections are shown below.

Running the automatic control program on the Control PC makes it possible to perform
automatic control without an external PC. However, in this case, the automatic control
program and MX180000A are connected via Ethernet.

Setup Example
Figure 3 shows the equipment connections when not using an external PC. The Automatic
Control Interface uses Ethernet to connect other instruments such as the MP2102A.

(1) First, install drivers for the expansion LAN interface card in the Control PC so that
NIC2 can be used by the Control PC.
(2) Connect Ethernet 1 of the MT1810A with NIC1 of the Control PC.
(3) After switching the MT1810A Main Frame ID to 1, power-up the MT1810A.
(4) Set NIC1 of the Control PC to the following address.
IP address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Fig. 4 Setting NIC1 IP Address
(5) Install the MX180000A software in the Control PC.
Set the MT1810A as the control target during the installation.

(6) Start the MX180000A in the Control PC to display the Main Application and Setup
Utility screen. And select “Setup Utility”on that screen.
(7) At the MX180000A Setup Utility, set the NIC2 interface for performing automatic
control as follows.
Active Interface: Ethernet
IP Address: 192.168.0.201
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.254
Port Number: 5001
Performance: Normal

(8) The Control PC restarts automatically after making the Setup Utility settings. After the
restart completes, start the Main Application.

(9) Follow the operation manual and set the IP Address of the other equipment
(MP2102A) to 192.168.0.202. Use the same 192.168.0.XX part as set for NIC2.
(10) After completing the above settings, use the included remote check software tool to
confirm the connection with the control PC. The remote check tool is a temporary
substitute for the user’s automatic control program.
a. The remote check tool runs on the free Python (v. 2.7.6) interpreter. First, download
the “Python 2.7.6 Windows Installer”from the following URL and install on the
Control PC.

b. Next, copy the bundled remote check tool “RemoteCheck2.py” package to the
Control PC desktop. Double-click the icon to start the remote check tool.
Fig. 9 Remote Check Tool Icon
c. Select the Target and input “*IDN?” at Command.
If the connection is normal, “ANRITSU, MT1810A,****” and “ANRITSU,
MP2102A,****” are displayed.
Input “q” to quit the remote check tool.
Fig. 10 Remote Check Tool Screen (RemoteCheck2.py)
If the remote check tool quits automatically when started, the probable cause is an
inability to establish a connection with the selected Target. In this case, check the
equipment connections and address settings, start the Main application again and
recheck the ability to connect.

Remarks: "RemoteCheck2.py" supports connections to two measuring instruments. Use
the bundled "RemoteCheck1.py" tool when only connecting to the MT1810A
Measurement System.
