To activate the integrated PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller (PERC) 2/Si,

perform the following steps.



1. Turn off and unplug your computer and peripherals.

2. Remove the right-side computer cover.

See “Checking Inside the Computer” in your system Installation and Trouble-

shooting Guide for more information.

3. Remove the cooling shroud.

4. Press the ejectors on the RAID controller DIMM socket (see Figure 1-1) down

and outward to allow the dual in-line memory module (DIMM) to be inserted into

the socket (see Figure 1-2).

5. Align the DIMM's edge connector with the slot in the center of the DIMM

socket, and insert the DIMM in the socket (see step A in Figure 1-2).

The DIMM socket has two alignment keys that allow the DIMM to be installed in

the socket in only one way.

NOTE: The RAID controller DIMM must be an unbuffered DIMM, rated to run at

100 MHz. Do not substitute registered DIMMs such as those used for system

memory. System memory is labeled “PC133.”

6. Press down on the DIMM with your thumbs while pulling up on the ejectors with

your index fingers to lock the DIMM into the socket (see step B in Figure 1-2).

7. Install the RAID hardware key in its socket on the system board (see Figure 1-1).

Secure the key with the latches on each end of the socket (see Figure 1-3). The

RAID hardware key should be labeled “PE2400.”

8. Replace the cooling shroud and computer cover, and then reconnect the com-

puter and peripherals to their AC power sources and turn them on.

9. Press <F2> immediately after you see the following message:

<F2> = System Setup

If you wait too long and your operating system begins to load into memory, let

the system complete the load operation; then shut down the system and try

again.

For more information on the System Setup program, see “Using the System

Setup Program”in your system User’s Guide.

NOTE: To ensure an orderly system shutdown, consult the documentation that

accompanied your operating system.

10. Press <Alt> <p> to switch to Page 2 of the System Setup screen.

11. If the Onboard RAID option is displayed, select this option.

If the Primary SCSI option is displayed, the integrated RAID controller was not

detected; go to step 1 and repeat all installation steps.

12. Press the left- or right-arrow key to set the Onboard RAID option to RAID.

The default setting for Onboard RAID is SCSI.

13. Press <Alt> <b> to save the settings and reboot the system.

14. Configure the RAID subsystem and install the RAID driver and management

software.
