Tanninsareacommonclassoforganiccompoundsinuplandwaterand
givethewaterayellow/browntint.Inhighland(peaty)areaswhere
waterrunsoffpeatthewatercanbevirtuallybrown.Organicscavenging
systemsuseresintoholdtheseorganicswhichareperiodically
backwashedawaywithbrine.Typically,every25litresofresinwilltake
out2000ppmoforganiccolourbeforeitneedsregenerating.
Aneasytestyoucantryathomeistoleaveaglassofthewater
overnight.Ifthecoloursettlestothebottomoftheglassthe
discolourationislikelycausedbyironand/ormanganese.Ifthecolour
remainsthesameitislikelycausedbytannins.
Anorganicscavengerisanionexchangesystemconsists
ofapressurevesselfilledwithresin.Locatedonthetop
ofthepressurevesselisthecontrolvalve.Thewateris
passedthroughthecontrolvalveanddownthroughthe
vessel.Asthewaterpassesacrosstheresinbed,the
colourcompoundsattachtotheresin.Periodically,
dependingonhowmuchwaterisused,theresinneeds
toberefreshed.Thisisdonebyflushingasmallamount
ofsalt(storedinanexternalbrinetank),thoughtheresin
vessel.Oncethisprocesshasbeencompletedtheresinis
refreshedandreadytobeginagain.

PeaseUsetheaccompanyingpackingdocumenttocheckthatallitemsare
presentandcorrect.
Ifanyitemismissingordamagedyourcarrierandsuppliermustbenotified
within2daysofreceiptifaclaimistobemade.
Ifinstallationisnottostartimmediatelyafterdelivery,theequipmentshould
bestoredinacleandryarea,whereitwillnotbedamaged,orbesubjectedto
temperaturesbelowfreezing.

specifiedforthatmedia(contactyoursupplier).
oIncomingwaterpressureisbetween2and8bar
(preferablyapprox.4bar)
oWatertemperaturebetween3ºCand45ºC.
1.2FittingtheDistributionSystem
Pleaseobservethelocalregulationsconcerningtheinstallationofyour
system.Checkthatyouhaveallowedspaceforaccesstotheunitfor
possiblefuturemaintenance.Thisinstallationmayrequireplumbing
workandwillrequireanelectricaloutlettobefittednearthesystem.
Thisguidedoesnotincludeplumbingdirections.
Onlyattemptthisifyouhavethenecessaryskills.
Systemsupto13”x54”(75litres)haveasimplerisertube
andbottomscreen.Thebottomscreenwillbepre‐gluedso
nofurtherassemblyisrequired.Simplyplacetherisertube
withbottomscreenintothevessel

Forlargersystemsbottomlateralsareused.Theseneedstobeassembled
insidethevessel
Movethevesselintoitsfinalpositionasitwillbedifficulttomoveonce
themediahasbeenadded.

1.3AddingtheMedia
Blockthetopoftherisertubeto
stopmediagettingdownthetube.
Thiscanbeaccomplishedwithtape
orasmallplasticbagovertheendof
thetube.
Fillthevesselwithwateruntilitaroundathirdfull.Thiswillpreventthe
bottomscreenfromgettingdamagedwhenyouaddthemedia.Itwill
alsoallowenoughmovementoftherisertubewhenthemediaisadded
foryoutore‐centre.
Addthesuppliedmediabutensureyouleavearound30%freespace
abovethemedia(theremaybesomemedialeftover).Thisissothe
mediacanexpandintothespaceduringregenerationallowingsediment
andcontaminantstobewashedaway.Italsoallowsthewatertopass
moreevenlythroughthemedia.
Youmaywanttoemployafunnelto
makethisprocesseasier(thiscan
beboughtasanoptionalextra).
Themediacanbepouredfromthebag
butwerecommendusingasmaller
containertoscoopoutthemediaand
pourintothevessel.

1.4Fittingthevalve
Addasmallamountofsiliconegreasetothevalveouterandinnero‐rings
Fitthelowerscreentothebottomofthevalve.Thisisabayonetfitting
(twisttolockintoplace).
Slidethevalveontotherisertubeensuringtherisertubeisfullyinserted
intothevalve.
Gentlyplaceitontothevesselthreadsandscrewontothethreadina
clockwisedirectionuntilitsqueezestightlyontothemaino‐ring.Then
finallygivethevalveafinaltightenbytappingtherearsideofthevalve
withthepalmofyourhand.

Attachthebrinelinetothebrineconnectiononthebrinetankandthe
brineinlet/outletontheClackvalve
Thebrinesystemconsistsofamouldedpolyethylenetankintowhich
thebrinewellandbrinepickupareassembled.Thetankformsthesalt
storagecontainer.
Thebrinepick‐uptubeisconnectedtothepipefromthecontrolvalve
whichsucksthebrinefromthetank.Atthebottomofthebrinepick‐up
tubeisanaircheckvalve.Thisservestopreventairenteringthevalve
whenallthebrinehasbeendrawnin.Airinthesystemcouldcause
spurtingand'hammering'atthetapsoroutlets.

Connectyourpipeworktotheinlet/outletconnections;usethesupplied
tailsprovidefor1”and1.25”valvesordirectBSPthreadedconnectionson
the1.5”or2”valves.
Forthe1”and1.25”valvesanoptional
bypassvalveisavailablewhichfitstothe
backofthevalveandallowsyoutoisolate
thesystemwhenoutofservice(egduring
routinemaintenance)
