Chapter 1: System Description
Function and Theory
The Keck Sa dShaker is a mecha ical sieve kit desig ed to provide
reliable grai size a alysis. It features 20 stai less steel scree s ra gi g
i size from US sieve No. 4 to 270. The sample is placed i to the top of
five clear acrylic cyli ders a d shake to distribute particles. Volumetric
perce tages are i dicated o the Shaker frame.

Chapter 2: System Installation
Your Sa dShaker comes as a assembled u it. Whe u packi g, be
sure that all ecessary compo e ts have bee i cluded a d are ot
damaged. Refer to page 5, System Compo e ts for a complete list.

Chapter 3: System Operation
1) Dry the soil or formatio sample.
2) Press the selected sieves i to the recess of the cyli ders; the flat side
of the sieve should be pressed agai st the flat face of the cyli der (the
sieve has bee co structed to fit tightly withi the cyli der). Apply
pressure to the metal edge whe i serti g or removi g the pieces.
3) I sert the foam gasket ri g which compe sates for the variable
thick ess of the sieves.
4) Stack the cyli ders; the plug is the bottom pa a d the cap is the top
of the assembly.
5) Measure the amou t of soil to be sieved.
6) Remove the top a d pour the measured sample i to the upper
cyli der.
7) Replace the top a d i sert the stack of cyli ders i to the frame.
8) Tur the k ob to secure the stack of cyli ders withi the frame.
9) Check to e sure that the top of each sieve correspo ds to the “zero”
graduatio .
10) Shake the u it to distribute the differe t sized particles.
11) Read the perce tages of each of the qua tities retai ed by the
various sieves a d the bottom pa (if the amou t to be sieved
correspo ds to the volume o the graduated scale, the size
distributio ca be read as a perce t of the total sample: volume =
100ml = 100 percent).

Chapter 4: System Maintenance
• Clea compo e t pieces with mild deterge t a d water. Ri se with
clea tap water.
• A soft bristle plastic brush may be used to dislodge dirt.
• Allow to air dry.
