OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
CC-80 and CC-81
Fluorescence Analysis Cabinets
Manual No. AM11028
Printed in U.S.A. Issued: September 2011
CC-81

INTRODUCTION
The Spectroline CC-80 and CC-81 cabinets are specially designed for
efficient fluorescence analysis. Both units come equipped with a 25-watt
internal white light source, while the CC-81 is additionally supplied with
the Spectroline ENF-280C 365/254nm 8-watt UV lamp.
For a list of E-Series lamp models that work with either the CC-80 or CC-81
cabinets, please visit www.spectroline.com. Choose from the available
8-watt lamps listed under "E-Series Ultraviolet Hand-Held Lamps."
For greater epillumination options, these cabinets may be used with one
or two Spectroline E-Series UV lamps that are available in 254nm,
312nm or 365nm, or a combination of these wavelengths. For higher
UV intensity and increased fluorescent contrast with transillumination,
these units may be placed over a wide range of Spectroline UV
transilluminators.

UNPACKING AND INSPECTION
1. Carefully unpack and inspect the cabinet for possible damage in
shipment. If any damage is noted, immediately notify the carrier and
supplier before attempting to use the equipment.
2. Save the shipping carton and packing materials for future storing and
shipping of the equipment.
3. Check the lamp’s electrical performance as soon as possible
according to the GENERAL FUNCTIONAL CHECKS outlined in the
‘‘OPERATION’’ section of this manual.
OPERATION
GENERAL FUNCTIONAL CHECKS
1. Connect the cabinet plug to a power outlet that complies with the
electrical requirements specified on the unit’s label.
2. Depress the master switch to the ON position. This switch must be
activated to operate the E-Series UV lamp(s) or the white light bulb.
3. Test the white light bulb by pushing the white light switch ON.
4. Check the felt curtain by pushing it inward and upward until
it connects with the magnetic catch. This will allow clear
placement of samples.

INSTALLATION
1. The power supply cord is the disconnect for this unit.
2. Check that the master and white light switches are both in
the OFF position.
3. Set the cabinet upright on a solid, level surface.
4. Place the lamp(s) in the lamp port(s), making sure the lamp cord(s)
remain outside the cabinet housing.
5. Plug the cord(s) into a lamp outlet.
6. Push the master power switch ON.
7. Operate the lamp(s) according to the manual enclosed
separately with each unit.
PORT COVERS
When the cabinet is not being used with two E-Series lamps
simultaneously, the unused port opening(s) on the upper portion of the
cabinet should be covered to exclude ambient light. Two port covers are
provided that fit easily into the openings.
BOTTOM PANEL
A black bottom panel is enclosed with the cabinet. When using the cabinet
without a transilluminator, the panel should be in place to ensure proper
shielding from ambient light. Remove the four round rubber screw holders
with a Phillips screwdriver. Align the four openings in the panel with the
bottom of the cabinet and reattach the rubber screw holders.
USING WITH A TRANSILLUMINATOR
Place the Spectroline UV transilluminator on a solid, level surface, filter
side up. Remove the bottom panel and reattach the rubber screw
holders to the bottom of the cabinet. These will prevent scratching of
the transilluminator surface.
WARNING
The transilluminator’s operation is separate from that of the
viewing cabinet. Do not attempt to plug the transilluminator into
the lamp outlets on the side of the cabinet. This will result in a
dangerous overload. The transilluminator must be plugged into a
separate external power source.

OPERATOR SERVICING
The following servicing instructions are intended for limited
maintenance of the cabinet. Do not perform any servicing other than
that contained in these instructions. Return the cabinet to the
factory for maintenance not covered in this section.
WARNING
To avoid the risk of electrical shock, always unplug both the
cabinet and the lamp(s) from their power sources before cleaning
or servicing. The power outlets in the cabinet will accommodate
only the Spectroline E-Series lamps.
HOUSING AND VIEWING WINDOW MAINTENANCE
Immediately clean all spills from the housing using water and a mild
detergent, if necessary, and wipe dry. Take care not to allow any liquids
to leak into electrical components. Periodically clean the UV-absorbing
viewing window with a glass cleaner and soft cloth.
