IntelliSensor™ Plus (77-115)
The Stanley® IntelliSensor™ Plus uses electronic
signals to locate the position of studs or joists
through drywall and other common wall materials.
Once the edge of the stud has been detected, the
IntelliSensor™ Plus LED display gives visual and
audio indications that allow you to easily pinpoint
the stud’s edge position. A pencil line allows you to
quickly note the location of the stud edges.
The IntelliSensor™ Plus allows the user to locate
wood and metal studs up to 1-1/2 inch Detection
depth.
The IntelliSensor™ Plus provides automatic
calibration and heavy duty ABS construction.
Depth detection selected by side button for 1/2 inch,
1 inch and 1-1/2 inch.
Important: Read all instructions prior to operating
the IntelliSensor™ Plus and DO NOT remove any
labels from the tool.

BATTERY DOOR
4
Open the battery door on
back of unit (illustration 3)
and connect a 9-volt battery
(not included). Insure to
align the "+" terminal of the
9-volt battery to the "+"
indicator, located inside the
battery compartment. Place battery door onto
case and snap battery door on.
Recommend to replace a new 9 volt battery
when low battery. (flashing green LED).
The ON/MODE Button is located on the right
side (illustration 1) of the hand grip.
1. Depress and hold “ON” button once (1x) to
select to 1/2 ” read depth detection. The
1/2”mode LED will illuminate (illustration 2). The
unit will then calibrate, followed by a beep and a
green LED will illuminate.
2. `Double-click’ / Depress and hold ONbutton
twice (2x) to select to 1” read depth detection.
The 1” mode LED will illuminate (illustration 2).
The unit will then calibrate , followed by a beep
and a green LED will illuminate.
3. “Triple-click”/ Depress “ON” button three
times (3x) to select 1-1/2” read depth
detection. The 1-1/2” mode LED will
illuminate (illustration 2). The unit will then
calibrate, followed by a beep and a green
LED will illuminate.
IMPORTANT: Unit will automatically shut- off if
ON button is released following steps 1,2,3
above.
4.0 Calibration
5.0 Calibrating
USAGE
5
Calibrate the unit on wall before scanning
for wood or metal stud.
IMPORTANT: The unit cannot be moved
before calibration is complate and before
green LED & Depth LED goed on.
Note:While calibrating, the
IntelliSensor™ Plus must not be placed
directly over a stud, dense material such as
metal, wet or newly painted areas as this
will prevent the unit from calibrating
properly. If this is done over wood or
metalstud the unit will give no indication
when moved away from the area. Move
to a different location and try again.
Following the requirements of 3.0, and 4.0,
hold the IntelliSensorTM Plus flat against
the surface, making firm contact. Select
depth (3.0) and hold the “ON” button. The
sensor will sound an audible "beep" (for 1-3
seconds) while self calibrating (Do not move
while calibrating). The Buzzer will stop
signifying the calibration is finished, (Only
the single bottom "Green" LED will
illuminate).
Notes: Releasing the on-botton will turn off
the sensor.
6
IMPORTANT: The unit cannot be moved
before calibration is complate and before
green LED & Depth LED goes on.
This sensor is designed for use only on
interior surfaces.
For best results the depth mode selected
should be based on the thickness of the
surface material being scanned (Reference
3.0 and 7.0)
7.0 Cautions on Operating
Operating Tips
Conventional Construction
8
You should always use caution when nailing,
cutting or drilling in walls, ceilings and floors
that may contain wiring or pipes near the
surface. Always remember that studs or
joists are normally spaced 16 inches or 24
inches apart and are 1-1/2 inches in width.
To avoid surprises, be aware that anything closer
together or of a different width may be an
additional stud, joist or fire break.
Always Grasp your stud finder between
fingers and thumb while maintaining contact
with your palm.
Doors and windows are commonly
constructed with additional studs and
headers for added stability. The
IntelliSensor™ Plus detects the edge of
these double studs and solid headers and
emits and holds an audio signal as it crosses
over them.
Surface Differences
This Scanner will scan through approxiamately
1/2" - 1-1/2" common building materials,
Including:
•Gypsum drywall
•Plywood sheathing
•Hardwood floors
•Linoleum over wood
•Wallpaper
The scanner cannot scan through:
•Carpeting
•Foil faced materials
•Ceramic tile
•Cement or concrete
•Metal & plaster walls
9
The thickness, density and moisture content of
the surface material will affect the sensing
depth Wallpaper—There will be no difference
in the function of the stud sensor on surfaces
covered with wallpaper or fabric unless the
coverings contain metallic foil or fibers.
Plaster and Lath — Unless the plaster and lath
is exceptionally thick or has metal mesh in it
there will be no problem with the unit
functioning properly.
Ceiling or Textured Surfaces — When dealing
with a rough surface such as a sprayed ceiling,
use a piece of cardboard when scanning the
surface. Run through the calibration technique
described earlier WITH the piece of cardboard
between the stud sensor and the surface. Also,
it is particularly important in this application to
remember to keep your free hand away from the
unit.
8.0 Specifications

Utilizing the procedure of scanning and
marking from two sides, IntelliSensor™
Plus will locate the stud center typically
within 1/8” accuracy for wood and 1/4”
accuracy for metal. When measuring a
wood or metal stud, it is recommended
the IntelliSensor™ Plus to be used at 30-
50% relative humidity.
