1. Safety instructions
For all work on the thermometer, please observe the national
safety and accident prevention regulations and the safety
instructions indicated in these operating instructions.
■
Using the instrument for purposes other than those described in the
following instructions is considered contrary to its designated use and
must therefore be avoided.
■
If faults cannot be eliminated, the device must be taken out of
operation and prevented from being accidentally put back into service.
■
Before installation, commissioning and operation the user must ensure
that the appropriate thermometer is selected, with regard to scale
range and performance and the appropriate wetted material (corrosion)
for the respective application's specic measuring conditions.
■
Serious injuries and/or damage can occur should the appropriate
regulations not be observed.
■
For hazardous pressure media such as oxygen, acetylene, ammable
or toxic gases or liquids, as well as air conditioning plant, compres-
sors, etc., in addition to all standard regulations, the appropriate
existing codes or regulations must also be followed.
■
Residual pressure medium in removed thermometers may be
hazardous or toxic. Appropriate safety measures must be taken.
■
Repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer. The instrument
must not be interfered with or changed.
■
We reserve the right to make technical changes without notice.
Further important safety instructions can be found in the
individual sections of this manual.
Avoid putting mechanical stress on the electrical connections
and on the enclosures.
All connections must only be opened when the instrument is
depressurised and has cooled down.

2. General
2.1 Product description / design TR10-W
The model TR10-W resistance thermometers consist of a ameproof, encapsu-
lated enclosure and a measuring insert which is securely mounted in an neck
tube. The measuring insert in combination with the neck tube has the eect of
amepath. For the selection of housings for mounting and installation, the WIKA
housing/equipment list is authoritative. For this, the latest revision must always
be used.
The thermometers are designed to be shock and vibration proof and the electric
components are protected against splash water. The standard version oers
vibration resistance in accordance with DIN EN 60751 (up to 3 g). The shock
resistance of all versions comply with the requirements of DIN EN 60751. The
electrical connection is made via Ex-d approved accessories.
2.2 Designated use
Resistance thermometers of these series must be inserted in a thermowell with
a wall thickness of at least 1 mm. The thermowell design can be user-dened,
however the operational process data (temperature, pressure, density and ow
velocity) must be taken into account.
The possible measuring ranges of the sensor are between -200 ... +600 °C.
2.3 Product description / design TC10-W
The model TC10-W thermocouples consist of a ameproof, encapsulated
enclosure, a measuring insert which is mounted resiliently in an neck tube. The
measuring insert in connection with the neck tube has the eect of a amepath.
For the selection of housings for mounting and installation, the WIKA housing/
equipment list is authoritative. For this, the latest revision must always be used.
The thermometers are designed to be shock and vibration proof and the electric
components are protected against splash water.
The electrical connection is made via Ex-d approved accessories.
2.4 Designated use
Thermocouples of these series must be inserted in a thermowell with a wall
thickness of at least 1 mm. The thermowell design can be user-dened, however
the operational process data (temperature, pressure, density and ow velocity)
must be taken into account.
Possible measuring ranges are between -200 ... +1200 °C.

4. Technical data and wiring details
4.1 Version 1:
The electrical data (e.g. circuit diagrams, limit deviations, etc.) is indicated in the
data sheets TE 60.14 (for TR10-W) and TE 65.14 (for TC10-W).
4.2 Version 2:
The electrical data (e.g. circuit diagrams, limit deviations, etc.) is indicated in the
respective data sheets for the integral head-mounted transmitters.
4.3 Version 3:
The electrical data (e.g. circuit diagrams, limit deviations, etc.) is indicated in the
respective data sheets for the integral Ex-d certied eld transmitters.
5. Maintenance and servicing
The thermometers described here are completely maintenance-free! But we
recommend a regular calibration!
The interface between the measuring cable and the connecting leads is potted
against moisture using a 2-component adhesive.
The connecting leads have a wire thickness of 0.5 mm², a wire length of
150 mm and are marked in dierent colours dependant on their sensor type.
The measuring insert is secured against twisting in the neck tube by appropriate
spot welds.
This means that the connecting leads xed to a terminal block, transmitter or the
like in the housing cannot be twisted and thus sheared o.

6. General information on explosion protection
14030069.01 12/2011 GB/D/F/E
WIKA operating instructions models TR10-W, TC10-W10
6. General information on explosion protection
The requirements of the 94/9/EC (ATEX) directive must be observed.
Additionally, the respective country-specic regulations concerning
the use in potentially explosive atmospheres (e.g. EN/IEC 60079-10
and EN/IEC 60079-14) are applicable.
■
The plant manager and not the manufacturer/equipment supplier is
responsible for the zone classication.
■
It is the sole responsibility of the plant operator to ensure that thermometers
which are complete and in operation are identiable with respect to all their
safety-related features. Damaged thermometers must not be used.
■
For the installation of the thermometers, only components (e.g. cables, cable
glands, etc.) which are suitable for ameproof enclosures must be used.
■
Observe the conditions given in EN/IEC 60079-14 for the grounding of
conducting shields.
■
When using a transmitter/digital indicator observe:
- The content of these operating instructions and the operating instructions of
the transmitter/digital indicator
- The respective regulations for the installation and operation of electrical
equipment
- The ordinances and directives regarding explosion protection
■
The ameproof thermometers must only be mounted to certied housings or
connection heads with the ignition protection type 'ameproof enclosure'.
■
Approved and listed eld housings (Version 3) must only be mounted and
installed by a trained technician using the best-available technology.
■
The thread gab for electrical equipment allowed for installation in potentially
explosive gas atmospheres are indicated in EN/IEC 60079-1. The thread
gab (Section 5.3) of parallel threads (per Table 3) for a housing volume of
< 100 cm³ must be ≥ 5 mm and for a housing volume > 100 cm³ ≥ 8 mm.
At least 5 threads must be screwed in. Tapered threads (per Table 3) must
have ≥ 5 threads on each component. At least 3.5 threads must be screwed
in. These instructions regarding the thread gabs must be observed during
installation and operation.
■
The direct screw connection between the thermometer and the connection
head or housing must not be twisted or opened. The housing can only be
adjusted by means of the optional two-part neck tube.
