Installation Notes

If you have installed the Windows Server 2008 (32-bit) operating system

using the Dell™ Systems Build and Update Utility, you will need to manually

install driver Intel_5100-Chipset-Software-_A02_R196223.exe (version A02

or later). You can download this driver through the update utility or from

www.support.dell.com.

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack

Installation

Running the Microsoft®Windows®2003 operating system on a multi-core

Intel®Xeon®Processor 5000 sequence-based server without the most current

integrated Service Pack (SP) will cause a system failure.

If you install the first release (R1) of Windows 2003 without a service pack,

you will receive the following system error:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Perform the following steps to install the most current release of

Windows 2003 Service Pack (SP2) on your system:

Temporarily disable the Demand-Based Power Management setting.

Power on the system.

Press <F2> during startup to enter the System Setup program.

From the Main screen, select

CPU Information

and press <Enter>

to open the

CPU Information

screen.

Select

Demand-Based Power Management

and press the right-arrow

key to change the setting to

Disabled

Press <Esc>, save your changes, and exit the System Setup program

screen.

Install the

Windows 2003

operating system and then install the Service

Pack.

Enable the Demand-Based Power Management setting.

Restart the system.

Press <F2> during startup to enter the System Setup program.

From the Main screen, select

CPU Information

and press <Enter>

to open the

CPU Information

screen.

Select

Demand-Based Power Management

and press the right arrow

key to change the setting to

Enabled

Press <Esc>, save your changes, and exit the System Setup program

screen.

RAC Mode Support

When installing an optional Remote Access Controller (RAC) card in your

system, connecting the RAC card’s MII cable to the system board is not

supported. As a result, the RAC card will not support shared or failover modes

with your system. The card can be configured only as a dedicated NIC port.

This is an update to your system’s Hardware Owner’s Manual. See your RAC

documentation for information on other remote access modes.

Server®2008 (32 bits)

Si vous avez installé le sytème d'exploitation Windows Server 2008 (32 bits) à

l'aide de Dell™ Systems Build and Update Utility, vous devez effectuer

une installation manuelle du pilote Intel_5100-Chipset-Software-

_A02_R196223.exe (version A02 ou ultérieure). Vous pouvez télécharger ce

pilote à partir de l'utilitaire de mise à jour ou du site www.support.dell.com.

Installation de Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Service Pack

Exécuter le système d'exploitation Microsoft®Windows®2003 sur un

serveur équipé d'un processeur multicœur Intel®Xeon®séquence 5 000 sans

installer le Service Pack intégré le plus récent entraîne une panne du système.

Procédez comme suit pour installer la dernière version de Windows 2003

Prise en charge du mode RAC

Lors de l'installation d'une carte RAC (Remote Access Controller) en option

sur votre système, il n'est pas possible de connecter le câble MII de la carte

RAC à la carte système. Par conséquent, la carte RAC ne prendra pas en

charge les modes partagé et de basculement avec votre système. La carte ne

peut être configurée que comme port NIC dédié. Il s'agit d'une mise à jour

du manuel du propriétaire de votre système. Reportez-vous à votre

documentation RAC pour plus d'informations sur les autres modes d'accès à

distance.

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service

Pack-Installation

Wenn das Betriebssystem Microsoft®Windows®2003 auf einem Server

mit Intel®Xeon®5000-Prozessor mit Sequenz-Technologie ausgeführt wird,

auf dem nicht das neueste integrierte Service-Pack (SP) installiert ist, wird ein

Systemfehler verursacht.

Wenn Sie die erste Release-Version (R1) von Windows 2003 ohne Service-

Pack installieren, wird die folgende Systemfehlermeldung angezeigt:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Führen Sie folgende Schritte durch, um die aktuelle Service-Pack-Version

(SP2) für Windows 2003 auf Ihrem System zu installieren:

Deaktivieren Sie vorübergehend die Einstellung „Demand-Based Power

Management“ (Bedarfsabhängiges Energiemanagement).

Schalten Sie das System ein.

Drücken Sie während des Systemstarts die Taste <F2>, um das

System-Setup-Programm aufzurufen.

Wählen Sie im Hauptbildschirm die Option

CPU Information

(Prozessorinformationen), und drücken Sie die <Eingabetaste>,

um den Bildschirm

RAC-Modusunterstützung

Bei der Installation einer optionalen RAC-Karte (Remote Access Controller)

im System wird die Verbindung des MII-Kabels der RAC-Karte mit der

Systemplatine nicht unterstützt. Deshalb unterstütz die RAC-Karte keine

Shared- oder Failovermodi mit dem System. Die Karte kann nur als

dedizierter NIC-Port konfiguriert werden. Dies ist eine Aktualisierung des

Hardware-Benutzerhandbuchs für Ihr System. Informationen zu weiteren

Remotezugriffsmodi finden Sie in der Dokumentation zum RAC.
