1 Preparing for Installation

1.1 Audience

This guide is intended for HP service representatives and other persons trained to install hardware

options in HP 10000 series racks. Such persons are expected to understand the hazards of working

in this environment and to take suitable precautions to minimize danger to themselves and

others.

1.2 Documentation Resources

1.3 Kit Description

The c-Class enclosure cable management bracket described in this manual is designed to align

and support the InfiniBand cables that lead from HP BladeSystem c-Class InfiniBand switches.

For example, the InfiniBand cables that run from an HP BLc 4X DDR InfiniBand switch mounted

in the rear of the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure to another switch, or a similar interconnect

device. The kit provides strain relief for the cables connected to the individual InfiniBand

interconnect ports and ensures a good connection. It also ensures the correct bend radius for the

cable and provides channels for cable routing and cable management. One HP BladeSystem

c-Class enclosure cable management bracket is required for each bay of system interconnect

device.

NOTE: The c-Class server blade enclosure cable management bracket is designed to support

24 AWG (0.41 inch) diameter, 26 AWG (0.37 inch) diameter, and 28 AWG (0.33 inch) diameter

QSFP InfiniBand cables. Consult the documentation supplied with your cluster before installing

the brackets and routing the cables.

1.4 Kit Contents

Verify that the cable management bracket kit contains the following components:

• Packaging and documentation.

• The bracket hardware shown in Figure 1-1.

The following list describes the callouts in Figure 1-1:

1. HP BladeSystem c-Class Enclosure Cable Management Bracket

2. Completed releasable cable tie assembly

3. First hole (port 1) of the inside row of holes used for the InfiniBand switch with 16

external uplink ports (489183-B21)

4. Push-button mount

5. Rail-mount hook (one on each end of the bracket)

6. Mounting hole to fasten the bracket to the rack's rear rail (one on each end of the bracket)

7. Outside row of holes used for the InfiniBand switch with 8 external uplink ports

(410398-B21)

• The fasteners that are specified in Table 1-1.

To prevent screws from becoming loose because of vibration, HP recommends that you use

an adjustable torque drive, set to the torque specifications given in the table above. Contact

your HP sales representative if any parts are missing.

• 16 push-button mounts (see callout 4 in Figure 1-1)

• 16 releasable cable ties (see callout 2 in Figure 1-1)

Note:

This cable management bracket might also be adaptable for other cable management solutions

(consult your hardware installation documentation).

1.5 Required Resources

To install the HP c-Class enclosure cable management bracket, you require the following resources:

• Tools:

— Screwdriver, #2 (medium) Phillips.

— Cage-nut insertion tool (shipped with the rack) or a flat-headed screwdriver.

— Marker pen or masking tape.

• Resources: Cables of the type used by the HP BladeSystem c-Class InfiniBand switch.

1.6 Prerequisites

Before you begin to mount the bracket:

•Follow the usual cable-handling precautions for InfiniBand cables, see the HP Cluster Platform

InfiniBand Interconnect Installation and User's Guide.

•Ensure you know how to plug in the InfiniBand cables, as described in the HP Cluster Platform

InfiniBand Interconnect Installation and User's Guide.

• Read the rack installation instructions for the c-Class enclosure.

• Obtain the set of cabling tables required for your HP Cluster Platform solution.

Important:

Do not secure the enclosure into the rack before you begin the bracket installation. You must be

able to access the rear (inward) face of the rack columns.
