1. PRIOR INFORMATION
1.1. FIELD OF APPLICATION
The RS485 SETTING TOOL is a smart digital system which enables the setting
of SOMFY RS485 products (Somfy RS485 motors and interfaces).
This was designed to ease the integration and settings for OEMs & façade
makers, but also to ease the installation and/or maintenance for installers
thanks to fast connection and intuitive tool thanks to its display.
Moreover, its firmware can be easily updated to allow to have the latest
compatibility version in hands.
The professional drive and home automation installer must ensure that this
product, once installed, complies with the standards in force in the country
of use.
1.2. LIABILITY
Before installing and using the RS485 SETTING TOOL, read these instructions
carefully.
This product must be installed by a drive and home automation professional,
in accordance with Somfy’s instructions and the regulations applicable in
the country in which it is commissioned.
Use of this product is reserved exclusively for a qualified person.
Any use of this product outside of the sphere of application described in this
guide is prohibited. Such use, and any failure to comply with the instructions
given in this guide, absolves Somfy of any liability and invalidates the warranty.
The installer must inform his customers of the usage and maintenance
conditions for this product and must provide the usage and maintenance
instructions after installing this product. Any After-Sales Service operation
on the product must be performed by a drive and home automation
professional.

2. INSTALLATION
Precaution
• These instructions are mandatory for the drive and home
automation professional installing this product.
• The Standard NF C 15-100 for electrical installations must be
adhered to.
• Comply with current standards and legislation in the country of
installation.
• Reserved for indoor use only.
• Before use, the condition of the product must be checked, never
use a faulty product.
• Disconnect from the mains before connecting or disconnecting
the drive.
• With this product, the neutral and phase cables may still be
powered if the mains plug is not disconnected.
• Do not use the product continuously with the motorised
product.
• Disconnect the product once setting is complete.
Caution
• This product must be connected to a single drive at a time.
• The remote control device must be placed out of the reach of
children.
• Never drop, jolt, pierce, submerge this product or any of its
accessories.
• Follow the instructions for the respective drive.

2.1.2. Battery installation
1) Remove the battery cover from
the back of the RS485 SETTING
TOOL.
2) Insert the batteries following the
polarity indicated.
3) Replace the battery cover on
the rear of the RS485 SETTING
TOOL.
2.1.3. Safety instructions
Warning
This product contains a cell battery.
Do not swallow the battery: risk of potentially fatal chemical burns in less
than 2 hours.
If the battery enters any part of the body or if in any doubt, call a doctor
immediately.
Keep batteries (new and used) and the product out of the reach of children. If
the battery compartment no longer closes, do not use the product and keep
out of the reach of children.
Risk of explosion, leaking flammable liquids or gases from the battery if it is
kept at a high temperature (hot oven, fire), crushed, cut or subject to very
low air pressure.
Non-rechargeable batteries must not be recharged.
Explosion risk if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.
Never use rechargeable batteries, use only alkaline batteries.

2.2. WIRING
Precaution
• Cables which pass through a metal wall must be protected and
isolated using a sheath or sleeve.
• Attach cables to prevent any contact with moving parts.
Connect the RS485 SETTING TOOL to the RS485 product.
Precaution
Between the RS485 SETTING TOOL and the RS485 product, the
cable length should not exceed 10 m.
2.3. COMMISSIONING
2.3.1. Switch on the RS485 SETTING TOOL
!Point to point settings only (this
is not a network tool).
1) Press the on/o button
to switch on the RS485
SETTING TOOL.
2) Choose the «Somfy RS485
node discovery» fonction
or the «setting tool
parameters» fonction by
pressing the up and down
buttons.
!Use the «Up», «Down», «Back»
and «Ok» buttons to naviguate
in the menu.
