The built-in Hygrometer provides Temperature,
Relative Humidity, Dew Point and Humidity Ratio
(GPP, g/kg) readings shown along the foot of the
display.
Infrared surface thermometer is located on the
base of the meter.
Pin probe and In-situ RH probe (optional)
connector is located on the top of the meter.
Auto power-off activates with a buzzer alert
after five minutes if no button is pressed or if no
change in meter reading is detected.
Menu: Press to access the Menu, and
to scroll, to select.
Test modes are selected in the Menu:
- Non DestructiveTest (NDT) mode
- Pin Probe mode
- Psychrometrics/Hygrometer mode
- Settings (C°/F° pref, Buzzer on/off,
Advanced Features)
- Language
Audio Buzzer (On/off in Settings) sounds when
the meter indicates high NDTreadings.
Low/Medium/High LEDs indicate low, medium
and high moisture values.
Hold freezes reading to facilitate ease of
recording readings. When the Moisture
Encounter MEX5 is in HOLD mode, ‘II’ is visible on
the top left of the display.

Method: Place your MEX5 directly on the
material being tested ensuring the base
electrodes are fully in contact with the material
for instant readings on the digital screen. The
Low/Med/High LEDs help indicate low, medium
and high moisture values.
Wood-Timber scale: Wood-Timber scale reading
measurements are in percentage moisture
content (%MC). Specific Gravity SG adjustment
can be turned on/off in Settings/Advanced
Features for Wood and Shallow Depth wood
measurements
Shallow Depth scale: Shallow Depth scale
reading measurements are in percentage
moisture content (%MC) when testing wood. For
other materials, the Shallow Depth scale is for
comparative readings and can be considered as
NDT WME readings (Non-Destructive Test Wood
Moisture Equivalent).
Comparative/relative, REL scales: The Drywall-
Roofing, Plaster-Tile and Masonry scales provide
comparative readings from 0 to 99.
When used with the optional plug-in Pin probe,
the MEX5 measures the percentage moisture
content (%MC) of wood using pre-set
International wood standards or wood species.
Pin Probe mode can also be used for Drywall
%MC and WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent)
readings for other materials.
