Basic safety notes

Risks to persons and property may arise from incorrect handling of

this product if these instructions are disregarded.

•Carefully read the manual prior to application and start-up of

the turning rings.

•Please observe the operating manual of the relevant chuck.

•Report damage to the turning rings and the power chuck as

soon as you detect it and repair immediately, so as to keep the

extent of damage as small as possible and to avoid risking the

safety of the chuck.

Use original SCHUNK spare parts only when exchanging

damaged parts.

•Keep this manual available for the personnel at all times.

•If the product is passed on to a third party, these instructions

must also be passed on.

Intended use

The ADR-C turning rings serve to turn Ø 30 - Ø 248 soft jaws at

2 mm distances. The product may only be used on the basis of

its technical data. It can be used for a 2- 3- or 6-jaw chuck. The

specified maximum technical data must not be exceeded during

use.

The product is intended for industrial use.

Use as intended also requires that the user has read and under-

stood this entire operating manual, in particular the chapter

“Basic safety notes”.

Not intended use

A not intended use of the ADR-C turning rings is for example:

•the turning rings are not clamped properly.

•if persons are operating the chuck with clamped turning rings

without wearing additional protective equipment and hence

disregarding the safety regulations.

•the technical data are exceeded when using the turning ring.

•the clamping pins on the turning rings are not clamped across

the entire surface (surface pressure)

Basic safety notes

01.01|ADR-C |en

Notes on particular risks

The turning rings and the chuck may pose a danger for persons

(danger to life and limb) if they

•are not used as intended;

•are not used or clamped properly;

•The safety and installation instructions, the safety and accident

prevention regulations valid at the usage site or the EC Machi-

nery Directive are not observed.

DANGER

There is a risk for life and limb of the operator in the case of a

fracture in the chuck jaws or when the turning ring gets lost.

•When using our turning rings in the rotating chuck the EC

Machinery Directive prescribes the use of protective equip-

ment, so that if the chuck or a component thereof fails, flying

parts will be caught by the protective equipment.

•The machine manufacturer must ensure that there is a

sufficient wall thickness of its housing / protection equipment

(considering the currently valid directives and standards).

WARNING

When loading and unloading the turning ring, there is a danger

of crushing limbs by opening and closing of the chuck jaws.

Do not reach between the jaws.

Wear personal protective equipment.

Prevent the power chuck from being operated unintentionally.

NOTICE

Do not load the sides of the clamping pins!

There is a danger of the clamping pins shearing off.

Basic safety notes

Personnel qualification

Only specialist personnel is permitted to apply and operate the

turning rings in the chuck. Specialist personnel are persons who by

their technical training, experience and knowledge are capable of

assessing the work to be performed and recognizing potential

dangers, and are thus able to take appropriate countermeasures.

If need be, take advantage of the manufacturer's training courses.

Specify the operator's responsibility, also with regard to safe be-

havior, and authorize the operator to reject instructions from third

parties which breach safety regulations.

During the training and instruction period, personnel must be con-

tinuously supervised by a specialist when working with the turning

rings on the chuck.

Using personal protective equipment

When using this product, observe the relevant industrial safety

regulations and use the personal protective equipment (PPE)

required!

•Use protective gloves, safety shoes and safety goggles.

•Observe safe distances.

•Minimal safety requirements for the use of equipment.

Warranty / Scope of delivery

01.01|ADR-C |en

Warranty

The warranty is valid for 24 months from the delivery date to the

production facility when used as intended.

Scope of delivery

1 complete set of turning rings and clamping pins

as shown

Function and handling

01.01|ADR-C |en

Function and handling

Chuck jaws for maximum repeat clamping accuracy must be

turned or ground in the chuck under clamping pressure.

•When turning or grinding, ensure that the turning ring or

turning pin is clamped by the top jaws and not by the base

jaws. Tighten the jaw mounting screws to the specified torque.

NOTICE

Do not tighten the jaw mounting screws with an extension pipe

and/or hammer blows!

The ADR-C turning rings are easy to use and versatile.

It is possible to cover all intermediate stops for turning soft jaws of

Ø 30 to Ø 250 at 2 mm distances. The ADR-C turning rings can be

used for 2-, 3- or 6-jaw chucks.

A turning ring is either used directly or assembled with up to 6

clamping pins, depending on the clamping diameter. Screw the

clamping pins (A - G with heights varying between 6 and 21 mm)

directly into the threads on the outer diameter of the turning ring,

applying a torque of 5 Nm. To determine the clamping diameter,

see table below.

Screw the socket pin into the hole in the middle of the turning ring

and by doing so insert the turning ring into the toolholder in such a

way that the flat sections and/or clamping pins can be clamped

across the entire surface.

NOTICE

Only assembly clamping pins among each other if their differ-

ence in height is not more than 3 mm.

There is a danger of great imbalance when turning.

The turning result is inaccurate.

NOTICE

Do not load the sides of the clamping pins!

There is a danger of the clamping pins shearing off.

Function and handling

01.01|ADR-C |en

Clamp the turning ring with max. 30 kN in the chuck and screw the

socket pin out of the turning ring.

The chuck jaws can now be turned.

Example:

In order to clamp the chuck jaws of a chuck to a diameter of

196 mm, you require turning ring 4 (ADR 4) with Ø 164 and

2 x clamping pins F with a height of 18 mm plus 1 x clamping

pin E with a height of 15 mm.
