Introducing the USB 2.0+FireWire CardBus DV Kit

The USB 2.0+FireWire CardBus DV Kit is a complete DV editing kit

-- a combo design with USB 2.0 and FireWire (1394a) interfaces,

deluxe DV editing software (full DV, AVI, QuickTime, Windows

Media, RealNetworks, and MPEG2 support) and a 1394 6-pin/4-pin

DV cable.

low-speed (1.5 Mbps) data transfer modes for simultaneous

operation of multiple USB 2.0/1.1 devices

removable drives, digital cameras, scanners, CD-RWs, DVD-

ROMs, PC video cameras, printers, CF/SM/MMC/SD/

Memory Stick memory card readers, and more...

Note: USB 1.1 devices are limited to USB 1.1 speeds even

when they are connected to USB 2.0 host adapter or USB 2.0

hubs.

FireWire (1394a) interface:

• IEEE 1394-1995, P1394a-2000 and OHCI Interface Specification

1.1 compliant

• Supports serial bus data transfer rates of 100, 200 and 400

Mbps

• Works with various types of 1394 devices including DV

camcorders/cameras, hard disk drives, CD-RWs, DVD-ROMs,

removable drives, scanners, and other audio/video devices

System Requirements

•Pentium or equivalent notebook computer with an available

CardBus Type II slot

•Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP

Recommended system for Digital Video capturing/editing:

• Pentium II or equivalent (400 MHz or above) notebook

computer

• 64 MB RAM and CD-ROM drive

• 1 GB of available hard disk space

• Video card with 4 MB RAM (PCI or AGP)

• Windows 98SE or later

•(1) Ulead VideoStudio DV editing software (deluxe version)

Installation

Important: Please install the driver first, then insert the USB

2.0+FireWire CardBus.

Make sure the power supply is connected to the USB 2.0+FireWire

CardBus before installing into your notebook computer.

Note: Throughout Windows driver installation, you may be

prompted to insert Windows Installation CD. Some files on

this CD are neccessary to complete driver installation. Please

insert CD when prompted and follow on-screen instructions.

Windows 98SE Installation

1. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, Run, type in

D:\EHCI_ALi.exe, then click OK. (Replace D: with the drive

letter of your CD-ROM)

2. Click Next. At the Windows 98 Second edition Q242975

update window, click Yes to continue, then Yes again to

accept the license agreement.

3. At Windows 98 Second edition Q242975 update window,

click No not to restart Windows.

4. At the second Windows 98 Second edition Q242975 update

window, click No.

5. At InstallShield Wizard window, choose Yes, I want to

restart my computer now, then click Finish.

6. After Windows resumes, insert the CardBus.

Note: Make sure the power supply is connected to the CardBus

before installing into your notebook computer.

7. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Next, then Next.

8. Clear all check boxes and click Next.

9. Click Next, then Next.

Note: If prompted for Windows Installation CD-ROM, click

OK. Insert this CD and click OK.

10. Click Finish.

11. Repeat steps 7-10 one more time to complete installation.

Windows ME Installation

1. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, Run, type in

D:\EHCI_ALi.exe, then click OK. (Replace D: with the drive

letter of your CD-ROM)

2. Click Next. At the Windows Millenium Edition Q268452

Update window, click Yes to continue, then Yes again to

accept the license agreement.

3. At the Windows Millenium Edition Q268452 Update

window, click No not to restart Windows.

4. At InstallShield Wizard window, choose Yes, I want to

restart my computer now, then click Finish.

5. After Windows resumes, insert the CardBus.

Note: Make sure the power supply is connected to the CardBus

before installing into your notebook computer.

6. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, choose Automatic search

for a better driver (Recommended), and click Next.

7. Click Finish to complete installation.

Windows 2000 Installation

1. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, Run, type in

D:\EHCI_ALi.exe, then click OK. (Replace D: with the drive

letter of your CD-ROM)

2. Click Next, Finish, then restart Windows.

3. After Windows resumes, insert the CardBus.

Note: Make sure the power supply is connected to the CardBus

before installing into your notebook computer.

4. Installation is complete. Windows 2000 automactically

detects and installs the correct drivers for the CardBus.

Windows XP Installation

Note: If you have have XP Service Pack 1 or later installed, Windows

will automatically detect and install the correct drivers for this

CardBus. No driver installation is needed. Otherwise, follow the

instructions below.

1. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, Run, type in

D:\EHCI_ALi.exe, then click OK. (Replace D: with the drive

letter of your CD-ROM)

2. Click Next, Finish, then restart Windows.

3. After Windows resumes, insert the CardBus.

Note: Make sure the power supply is connected to the CardBus

before installing into your notebook computer.

4. At the Found New Hardware Wizard, choose Install the

software automatically (Recommended), and click Next.

5. Click Continue Anyway. Our driver has been thoroughly tested

in Windows for stability. This message appears because Microsoft

has not tested this product through WHQL certification. Then

click Finish.

6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 one more time to complete driver

installation.

To verify successful driver installation:

1. Check Device Manager to verify successful driver installation.

Windows 98SE/ME: From the main desktop, right click My

Computer, click Properties,then click Device Manager.

Windows 2000/XP: Right click My Computer, click Manage,

then click Device Manager.

2. Double click Universal Serial Bus controllers and the

following options should be displayed, in addition to others

that may come with your system.

- ALi PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller

- ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller

- USB Root Hub

- USB2.0 Root Hub

3. Double click 1394 Bus Controller or IEEE 1394 Bus host

controllers option and an OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host

Controller should be displayed.

4. If these options do not appear, eject the Cardbus and re-insert

it while in Windows.

Ulead VideoStudio Software Installation

The USB 2.0+FireWire CardBus DV Kit includes Ulead®

VideoStudioTM digital video editing software for producing home

videos complete with attractive titles, transitions and sounds.

1. Insert the Ulead VideoStudio DV software CD. Auto-run

should start automatically. If not, click Start, Run, type in

D:\Autorun.exe, then click OK. (Replace D: with the drive

letter of your CD-ROM)

2. Choose Install Ulead VideoStudio and follow on-screen

instructions to complete installation.

Note: For instructions on how to use Ulead VideoStudio,

please refer to VStudio.pdf file located in the Manual

directory on the Ulead VideoStudio DV software CD.

Connecting DV Camcorder

Before setting up the digital video camcorder, make sure to verify

the driver for the adapter has been successfully installed in your

system and follow the setup procedures listed below.

1. Boot up your system.

2. Connect the 4-pin connector of the provided FireWire (1394)

6-pin/4-pin DV cable into your digital camcorder, and

connect the 6-pin connector into an available port on the 1394

adapter. Power on the camcorder. The camcorder should

now appear in Device Manager.

To verify successful DV Camcorder setup:

1. Check Device Manager to verify successful driver installation.

Windows 98SE/ME: From the main desktop, right click My

Computer, then click Properties. Click Device Manager tab.

Windows 2000/XP: Right click My Computer, click Manage,

then click Device Manager.

2. Double click Imaging Device(s).

- AMicrosoft DV Camera and VCR or DV Camcorder should

be displayed.

Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA)

SIIG warrants to the original buyer of the product that the hardware

is free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one,

two or five years from the date of purchase. If your product fails to

be in good working order during the warranty period, you may

return it to SIIG for repair or replacement at SIIG's option.

To return the product, you need to follow these steps.

Step 1: Contact SIIG's RMA Department

To obtain an RMA number, SIIG's RMA Department can be reached

by phone at (510)413-5333 or fax at (510)657-5962 or email at

[email protected]. In order to issue an RMA number, the product

serial number is required. This number can be found on the side of

the box and on the back of the product.

Step 2: Complete the RMA form

• Fill out your Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) form,

and include it in the package with the product.

• Properly pack the product for shipping. All software, cable(s)

and other accessories that came with the original package

must be included.

• Clearly write your RMA number on the top of the returned

package and on the accompanying RMA form.

SIIG will refuse to accept any shipping package, and will not

be responsible for a product returned without an RMA number

posted on the outside of the shipping carton.

Step 3: Ship the Product

You are responsible for the cost of shipping back to SIIG at the

SIIG will ship the repaired or replaced product via UPS Ground or

US Mail at no cost to you.
