The Reader/Writer+Floppy is the perfect choice for

computer users who need a flash memory card

reader/writer that supports multiple card formats as

well as reads Floppy disks.

Onmostmotherboards,theUSBheader/pin-outconsists

of 9 pins arranged in 2 rows; and each header allows for

2 USB connections (i.e. USB1 and USB2). Normally, the

pins for USB1 and USB2 are in seperate rows.

4-pinheader-to-typeAUSBAdapter

This USB adapter is only needed if you plan to connect

the Reader/Writer+Floppy to a type A USB port instead

of a USB pin-out header.

Match up the wires by color when connecting the

Reader/Writer+Floppy's 4-pin USB connector to the

4-pinheader,thenplugtheotherendintoatypeAport.

Installing the Reader/Writer+Floppy

Important: InorderfortheReader/Writer+Floppytowork

properly, the driver of your existing USB 2.0 host

adapter must be installed properly.

1. Turn OFF the power to your computer and all

connected peripheral devices.

2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the

computer.

3. Remove the computer’s cover.

4. Select an available 3.5" or 5.25" drive bay for the

Reader/Writer+Floppy,removethecoverplatefrom

the selected drive bay. Secure the

Reader/Writer+Floppy to the drive bay by using

the supplied mounting screws.

Note: When installing the Reader/Writer+Floppy

into a 5.25" drive bay install it into the 5.25"

mountingrack beforemountinginto thedrive bay

and follow the same assembly instructions. Refer

to 5.25" Mounting Rack Assembly on page 3.

5. Plug in a mini power connector from the system

power supply to the Reader/Writer+Floppy's

power connector.

Note: If you don't need the floppy drive, skip

steps 5 and 6 and continue to step 7.

6. Connect the floppy drive ribbon cable to the

Reader/Writer+Floppy's floppy drive connector.

Make sure the stripe on the cable is on the side

opposite the power connector.

7. Connect the Reader/Writer+Floppy's 4-pin USB

connectorto the system's internal USB port. Refer

to USB Pin-out Header, on page 4 for more

information. Check your system documentation

for the location of the USB pin-out header.

Note: If your system has an internal type A USB

port you may choose to connect the

Reader/Writer+Floppy's 4-pin USB connector via

the included 4-pin header to USB adapter. Refer

to Figure 6, on page 5 for more information.

8. Replace the computer's cover and reconnect the

power cord.

Hardware installation is complete. Go to the next

section, Driver Installation to continue with the

installation.

Driver Installation

Windows98SE

1. Boot up Windows. At the Add New Hardware

Wizard click Cancel two times.

2. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, then Run. Type

D:\setup.exe,thenclickOK. (Change D:tomatch

your CD-ROM drive letter)

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the

driver. Restart the computer to complete the

installation.

4. The driver installs automatically when Windows

resumes.

Windows2000

With Service Pack 2 (SP2) or earlier:

1. Boot up Windows, then insert the driver CD.

2. Click Start, then Run. Type D:\setup.exe, then

click OK. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM

drive letter)

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the

driver. Restart the computer to complete the

installation.

4. The driver installs automatically when Windows

resumes.

With Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later:

Important: Windows 2000 with SP3 or later

automaticallydetectsandinstalls thecorrectdriversfor

this device. No driver installation is needed. Refer to

Accessing Memory Cards, on page 10, for the order in

which the memory slots appear.

However, you may choose to install the provided

software that labels each drive. If you choose to install

this optional software, please follow the directions

below.

1. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, then Run. Type

D:\setup.exe,thenclickOK. (ChangeD:tomatch

your CD-ROM drive letter)

2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the

driver. Restart the computer to complete the

installation.

3. The driver installs automatically when Windows

resumes.

WindowsME/XP/Server2003

Important: Windows ME, XP and Server 2003

automaticallydetectsandinstalls thecorrectdriversfor

this device. No driver installation is needed. Refer to

Accessing Memory Cards, on page 10, for the order in

which the memory slots appear.

However, you may choose to install the provided

software that labels each drive. If you choose to install

this optional software, please follow the directions

below.

1. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, then Run. Type

D:\setup.exe,thenclickOK. (ChangeD:tomatch

your CD-ROM drive letter)

2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the

driver. Restart the computer to complete the

installation.

ToVerifySuccessfulDriverInstallation

1. Check Device Managerto verify successful driver

installation.

Windows 98SE/ME: From the main desktop, right

click My Computer, click Properties,then click

Device Manager.

Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003: Right click My

Computer, click Manage, then click Device

Manager.

2. Double click Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Windows 98SE/2000 w/SP2 or earlier: Multi-Card

Reader should be listed.

Windows ME/2000 w/SP3 or later/XP/Server 2003:

USB Mass Storage Device should be listed.

3. Double click Disk drives:

Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003: USB2.0

CF Card CF... and USB2.0 MULTI Card MS...

should be listed.

Inserting Memory Cards and Floppy Disk

For CompactFlash, IBM MicroDrive, Memory Stick,

MultiMediaCard and SecureDigital memory cards,

insert with the top label facing up.

For SmartMedia memory card, insert with the top label

facing down and gold pins facing up.

For Floppy disks, insert with the top label facing up.

Removing floppy disk and memory media

Donotremovememorycardsand/or floppydiskwhen

theActivity/Access LED is Flashing/On. Confirm that

the LED is off for several seconds before removing any

inserted media.

Accessing Memory Cards

WhentheReader/Writer+Floppyissuccessfullyinstalled,

twoRemovableDisciconsappearinMyComputer. To

access any one drive, double click the icon that

corresponds to the memory card. The first removable

disk icon corresponds to CF and Microdrive memory

media. The second removable disk icon corresponds to

SmartMedia, SecureDigital, MultimediaCard and

Memory Stick memory media.
